I was saddened to hear of the death of Richard. Seeing him striding along behind his dogs while out for an early morning walk was for me part of the start of the day--that and exchanging a cheerful greeting. In retirement, Richard quickly became a valued member of our community. He will be missed.

I was very saddened to learn of Richard's death while I was in Nelson last week. He was a good friend and fine artist and raconteur. I shared a coffee with Richard any time I visited Nelson and could always count on him to keep me well informed about activities in the Kootenays. No-one could fashion a newsy and erudite e-mail quite like Richard. He will be sadly missed.

My heart felt condolences, Richard was a wonderfully vibrant soul and will be missed by many. It was just the other day I saw him walking with his dog, I wish I had stopped and chatted with him. A good reminder to stop being so busy. I will always have fond memories of Life Drawing with Richard years back. Rest peacefully Richard..

My condolences to the Carver family. I have many fond memories of Richard ... mainly back from my high school/early university days with Jocelyn. He was wonderfully chatty, humourous, kind, and multifaceted in his interests. It was lovely to see him make a new life in Nelson and be so happy.

Just read the Nelson Daily News about my friend Richard. I'm in shock. I will very much miss our coffee meetings at Oso Negro.
My condolences to all of Richard's family.

Dear Carvers,
I am so sorry that Richard died so unexpectedly a week ago. Only two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be chatting to him at the Market, getting a full update of his active life in Nelson, swapping tales about our respective brilliant granddaughters. lamenting the state of Ottawa politics - Richard's interests always ranged far. There was never enough time to to explore them all. Cherish the memories. Hugs, Carol
