Richard Clabault Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2025.
Richard Franklin Clabault, 92, of Weston and Sandwich, MA, passed away on August 29 in Tampa, Florida. Richard ("Dick") was born in Pittsburgh to the late Wilfred and Eleanor Clabault. Dick was predeceased by his brothers Robert, James, and William.

He was a graduate of Tufts University and Tufts Dental School, who then went on to serve in the Army as a dentist and Captain in Korea. Once he completed his service, he opened up his dental practice in Weston where he had settled with his wife, Joan (Bonitz). They were married for 57 years before Joan passed in 2017. Dick met Joan on a blind date in 1956 and were instantly smitten and wed in May, 1960 and began their family of three children.

He loved to travel with Joan, especially to Bermuda after spending their honeymoon there as well as countless trips to Asia and Europe. Dick had many passions in life in addition to his family, including gardening, playing bridge, hosting large dinner parties and with family and friends, and his patients from his 35+ year dental practice in his adopted home of Weston. He was a voracious reader and avid history buff who could recount endless stories of nearly any topic his listener might enjoy.

Dick is survived by his daughter Jane (Clabault) Piro and her husband Paul of Lutz FL, Susan (Clabault) Gruber and her husband Bob of Keswick, VA, and son Michael and his wife Sarah of Boston, MA, his brother-in-law Carl Bernardo of Wayland MA and his beloved grandchildren, Brittany, Austin, Caroline, Ethan, Sam, Olivia, Nicholas, and Matthew.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Julia's Church located at 374 Boston Post Road in Weston, MA on Friday October 10, 2025 at 11am with a short reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to Heritage Museum & Gardens, 67 Grove Street, Sandwich MA 02563 where Dick had volunteered after retirement to continue his love of gardening.
