Just found out today about Rick's passing and it is as devastating a loss today to those he networked with at trade shows and conferences.
Rick was a good man to know in our industry. He had time for everyone as everyone wanted to hear what he had to say. For those of us who didn't work with Rick as others in our industry, we're still in shock and beginning to understand that industry will be a less secure place without him around.

I send my deepest sympathy to Rick's family. I had known Rick and his family since he was young. Rick always had a special place in my heart. I had the great honor to present the award of Eagle Scout to Rick with Scoutmaster Dave Parry. Rick was the the first Eagle scout for the troop and paved the way for 49 more. He will be remembered with great honor. Jan P. Olszewski, Scoutmaster Emeritous Troop 263, windsor lOcks CT

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Family. I met Rick at West Point in the fall of 1969 on the Plebe Soccer team. We had an undefeated team, thanks in part to many of Rick's big clearing kicks. 4 years later, we found ourselves together at Fort Sill as young 2nd Lieutenants. We had a lot of laughs as two New Englanders tried to assimilate into Oklahoma culture. Was proud to have Rick as a classmate and friend, be thou at peace.

I just received word about Rick from my cousin Doreen Jankowski, Rick's cousin. I may be a distant cousin on Rick's Pepin side. I had been hoping to make Rick's acquaintance based on the wonderful comments about him from Doreen. It is possible that Rick and I crossed paths on coach Palone's soccer squad at USMA, Rick was a Plebe during my Firstie year and I was on the squad all four years. And we were both born in Hartford. This is very sad news--my heartfelt condolences to Rick's family.

Rick and I were West Point classmates in Company C-2 of the Corps of Cadets. With about thirty others. we started an academy experience together in the summer of 69 that ended with graduation in June of '73. During that time, Rick was always a source of good humor and stability, despite the rigors and demands always surrounding us. Ever humble and kind, from those beginnings to his final days, Rick was one who encouraged others always and never diminished them. We saw each other only infrequently in the intervening decades, but I never spent time with him when I didn't want more. Rick lived life well and fully, and we all thank him for his friendship and example. Thoughts and prayers are extended to his family and others, united in a sense of loss.

I knew Rick for only a few years, but learned from him much more than the years imply. Whether riding with him in his rental car or having the pleasure of chauffeuring him in my truck going to clients in SoCal, Rick always had a word of encouragement or thoughtful advice on how to handle a situation. He spoke frequently and lovingly of his family, and a smile would appear when he spoke of his wife joining him on business trips to SoCal. Rick will be dearly missed by his colleagues, and I will always be grateful for the mentorship and example he gave to me and the leadership over Coalfire. May God grant peace and comfort for his family during this time of mourning.
