Obituary for Richard A. "Rick" Dun

November 25, 1948 - November 25, 2024

Richard (Rick) A. Dun passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, his 76th birthday. He is survived by his sister, Laura Dun Stanford; his daughter, Lisa Dun Coleman, her husband, Canon Coleman, and their children, Chance and Carson Coleman; his stepson, Donald Merritt, and his children, Morgan and Jacob Merritt; and his beloved German Shepherd, Maximus.

Rick grew up in Orlando, Florida and was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning a master's degree in civil engineering. He served in the United States Navy for 12 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. During his time in service, he was a Seabee, a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalions, served as an Admiral's Aide and taught at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.

After leaving the Navy, Rick dedicated the next 40 years of his career to civil engineering projects across the globe. His work included highways in the United States, a water treatment pipeline in Botswana, and a water treatment plant in Dublin, Ireland. He took great pride in his contributions to infrastructure development and the impact his projects had on communities.

Above all, Rick cherished his wife, Elizabeth Dun, who passed away in 2021. They shared over 30 loving years together and were truly partners in everything.

Rick will be remembered for his intelligence and his dedication to his work. A private service will be held, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations supporting German Shepherd Rescue Services.
