Richard Benjamin Exley

It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to Richard this week.

On Monday March 11, 2024, Richard Benjamin Exley died at the age of 67 in Sugar Land, Texas. Richard was born to Dick and Mari Exley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 26, 1956. He attended Memorial High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration while working full time and helping raise two children.

Richard was a successful sales representative working for some software giants such as Microsoft, BMC Software and Oracle. From an early age, Richard was musically inclined and experimented with many instruments, finally landing on the bass guitar. All through his teenage years, Richard had various bands with his friends, one of which was named Montana and was very well known in Houston in the 70's. In the late 70's Richard toured with the well-known band, Canned Heat. In his 30's, Richard had become a deacon at Second Baptist Church where he also played bass guitar. He also had a jazz band, The Richard Exley Trio, and played all around town for parties and weddings.

Richard absolutely loved science fiction - some of his favorite movies were Marvel and DC Comics as well as Star Wars and Star Trek. Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Mari. He is survived by his wife, Teri Cameron and his father, Dick Exley and his wife, Rita Henry, sisters, Maribeth Exley, Lilly Exley, Erin Exley and brothers Chris Exley and Brian Exley, and his two daughters, Hannah Exley and Jenna Exley Hickman.

Richard will always be remembered for his wit, infectious laugh and charm. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. We love you, Richard and will never forget you. Please be at peace in heaven.
