Richard Fetty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2012.
Richard Fetty, 90, of La Quinta, California passed away September 8, 2012. He was born November 28, 1921 to Elmer and Edith Fetty in Huntington, West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Notable, and was an Honorably Discharged WWII Veteran. Many thanks to Denise Goolsby for including Dad in her "Honoring our WWII Heroes" series - we will treasure the memories she was able to draw out of him. He met Angeline Papangellin at Automatic Canteen Co. of America where they were both employed. They married on July 15, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He then became a maintenance mechanic for Union Carbide in Chicago, Illinois. In 1969, he was transferred to their Santa Fe Springs, California location. After retiring, he enjoyed a second career with the California Department of Transportation for ten years. He was a long time volunteer for the ALS Foundation in Orange County, California, after his wife Angie's death from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) in 1994. Richard loved golf – he was a 2 handicap in his prime – and enjoyed many rounds with his grandson Andrew at La Mirada Country Club. He is survived by his son George and daughter-in-law Halle (La Quinta, California). He is also survived by his grandson Andrew Fetty (La Mirada, California) who will always have the memory of taking his Grandpa to Hooters "for the wings" and watching him sink a 15 foot putt at L.M.C.C. just three months ago. His granddaughter Lexie Fetty (La Mirada, California), who always made Grandpa's face light up like the sun every time she came to see him, will always treasure the memory of having her Grandpa see her perform at Disneyland. He is also survived by his sisters Betty and Anna, and brothers Joe, Ray and Jimmy. Much love and gratitude to his nephews, Eugene Rose and his wife Shelia and John Pritchard for dropping everything to be by Richard's side every time they were needed. Pre-deceased by his wife Angeline (Angie), sisters Rosalie and Dorothy, and brother Norvell. Those who knew him will never forget the offbeat songs he loved to sing, his quick wit and great memory, brilliant smile and bright blue eyes, his welcoming "Hey, hey, hey, howdie do?" and generosity beyond compare. Many thanks to Trish O'Shea, Jen Esqueda, Veronica Wilkins, Yvonne Rodriguez, and Celina Humphrey - your kindness to Richard will not be forgotten. Arrangements are private. If desired, friends may honor Richard's memory by making a donation in his name to The Pet Rescue Center of Coachella, PO Box 6570, La Quinta, CA 92248.
