It was sad to learn of Dick's passing. I met Dick in Boot camp in Bainbridge MD and we were both assigned to VF 103, Cecil Field Jacksonville, FL. We served four years together there both receiving our ADJ-2 rating.

Dick, Martin Carle, Gene Gilpin and Gene Whitmire and I enjoyed many "liberties" together -- both stateside and in the Mediteranean. Dick was a caring and loyal friend.

He shall be fondly remembered.

I met Sr Chief Fish at SERE school in Brunswick ME in 1985. I was a newly minted aviator, commissioned in 192, and he had served with my Dad in VF 103 back in the 50's. In SERE school he played the role of an enemy prison camp guard, so he played especially "hard" with me - asking me questions about my Dad the kind of freaked me out at the time. I am told that at I resemble my Dad at that age, and we share the same name (I'm a "jr") so I'm sure it wasn't hard for him to figure out who I was...At the end of that phase of training we shared a few comments about how he knew my Dad from way back when. I remember him telling me, "Tell Gus that Dick Fish says hello", and what a joy it was to my Dad to hear his name. It's very sad to hear that he has passed on. He's a beloved Shipmate who will be missed by all.

I first met Dick when I arrived at Cecil Field and joined the VF103 line crew. Many called him Dick but I also knew him as Ira a name that he never used, In Naples Italy at Christmas 1958 we shared a few brews. I remember him well and considered him my friend. I will miss him as all the VF103 people will.

To Mike & Family.
I recently heard of your Dad’s passing and am sorry for your loss. We were close friends while serving in the Navy.
I was privileged to work with Dick on the flight line crew in Fighter Squadron 103 in 1958 and 1959. I still have fond memories of our times together both ashore and at sea.

Those memories were refreshed again when I arrived in 1966 at NAS Patuxent River. I learned that Dick was also stationed there. We were assigned to different divisions on the base but frequently were able to get together. While there, we both were selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer. We were initiated together as CPO’s and bonded even more as “shipmates”. You should have seen us that day !!

I believe you can tell a lot about a person's integrity by the way they interact with other people. Your Dad was an extraordinary man with lots of character. He treated everyone with respect and kindness. He made us laugh. People always spoke so highly of him and the earth has lost a wonderful soul. I know that a man like Dick is seated in a heavenly place with his ears turning red from all the awesome things people are saying about him!
