Age 86, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 in McMurray, PA. He was blessed with and is survived by five children, Richard "Marty" Fitzgerald, Jr., Maureen (Bill) Groves, Tim (Audrey) Fitzgerald, Brian (Cristy) Fitzgerald, and Bill (Jodi) Fitzgerald; and had twelve grandchildren, Maddie, Michael, Kaleigh, Mary, Meghan, McKenzie, Molly, Erin, Connor, TJ, Riley, and Rachel. Richard was known as "Poppy" to all, was always caring for others, and was a devout Catholic. Born in Washington, PA, he spent his youth in Fairmont, WV. Having served as a US Navy corpsman, he went on to graduate from Duquesne University in pharmacy; and eventually owned and operated Family Pharmacy and Taylor's Pharmacy in Washington, PA, one of the last remaining old-fashioned pharmacies with a soda fountain and candy counter. He loved his family, golf, the Pittsburgh Steelers, traveling, and singing in the choir at St. Benedict the Abbot Church in Peters Township, where he and his deceased wife (Mary Ann) were founding members. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Popovitch of San Francisco, CA; and his brother, Pat (Veronica) Fitzgerald of Denver, CO. Just googled "Taylor's Pharmacy" "Washington PA" and came upon Mr. Fitzgerald's obituary. My condolences over his passing. Glad he lived a long life and had so much family. My late father (Stephen Romanoff) owned Ace Sporting Goods (which was a few doors down from Taylor's through the 1980's). As a kid, I would head over to pick up prescriptions for my family, look at the toy cars on display at the pharmacy and pick up snacks. It was a cool that they had a soda fountain.
God bless you.

Dear Fitzgerald Family,
Words cannot Express what your father has meant to me. Not only was he my dear friend, he was my mentor. His influence on my choosing to be a pharmacist is immeasurable. I will always remember working at Taylor's and at Family Pharmacy fondly.
My deepest sympathies to you all,
Margaret Ann Carroll James

Dick became like a family member through
St Ben's daily masses, singing with us in
the church choir and coming to our rosary
gatherings at our home. He added so much
joy to our lives.

Dear Fitzgerald Family,
I have fond memories of working for your Dad at Taylor's Pharmacy while in high school at ICHS, 1972-1976. I delivered prescriptions in an AMC vehicle throughout the area, worked around the pharmacy and retail area, and every Friday, mopped the floor at Family Pharmacy (my least favorite job.)
Your father taught me how to interact with the public, always with genuine interest and a great sense of humor. He smoked a pipe while typing up labels behind the counter (how retro is that?) and on special occasions let me partake in some Irish Mist that he kept behind the counter. We had many great conversations and he was an ideal employer for a high school youth.
God Bless to a good, kind, wonderful Irishman.
Best regards,
Keith Lester
