Richard Giroux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2025.
With great sadness we share with all who knew and loved him, the passing of our father and beloved husband, Richard Leonard Giroux on February 23, 2025. After a brave 4 1/2 year battle with brain cancer, Richard died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Dodee, who never left his side in his final days.

Born on September 17, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Leonard and Mary Giroux, Richard was one of 6 children and grew up loving the Great Lakes and being near the water. His passion for being outside on the water would carry on throughout his life as he became a boater, spent family vacations at Deep Creek Lake patiently teaching his children to water ski, took up fly fishing, and enjoyed many trips to the Jersey Shore.

Rich's greatest legacy was his dedication to his family. He shared a loving bond with Dodee for 54 years and together they built a life filled with beautiful memories, including trips to Florida, out West, and the beach-places that brought them great joy. A devoted father, Rich adored his daughters: Renee Sherwood (Scott), Lisa Giancola (David), and Missy Parsons (Steve). Their love extended wholeheartedly to their seven grandchildren: Ashley, Caitlin, Abby, Owen, Everett, Bryce, and Noah.

A person of great Catholic faith, Rich found strength in his beliefs and was actively involved in helping build a church community in Hunt Valley and took part in Bible study for many years with Dodee. His love of being on the water with a fishing pole or sitting on the dock watching a sunset, reflected his great appreciation for God's presence in peaceful moments. His unwavering faith was demonstrated in his belief when he shared; If he asked "God, why me?" about the bad things, then he should also say, "God, why me?" about the good things that happened in his life.

Rich's professional dedication, integrity and sense of humor were admired by all who worked with him. He spent 50 years in the car industry moving around the country with General Motors and later as the Executive Vice President of the Frankel Automotive Group in Maryland.

Rich's kindness, humor, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He gave his love generously to all of us and never asked for anything in return but a kind word and a smile.

Love gives you memories. Faith gives you strength.

Rich was a wonderful man in every aspect husband, father, co-worker, friend and he will be remembered by all as someone special. It seems like yesterday that he came to FRANKEL Cadillac but that is how fast time flew. Rich surely left his mark on the hearts of everyone who worked with him. I especially remember how kind he was to Gwen when she was so sick. Tony and I both are saddened by his departure. We know how much he loved his family and how much they loved him and we know the deep loss they feel. We pray for all of the family. With deepest sympathy Tony and Lee Dondalski

Dear Dotee and family. My family and I were one of the early parishioners of SFX. At Fr. Donellan´s request, I served on the first Mission and Planning Committee with Rich. What a wonderful experience this was working with such a fine gentleman. And although we have been gone from the Parish for many years, I still receive the bulletin. I do this because the Parish and people like Rich meant so much to us. My wife Barbara converted to Catholicism at SFX so our memories are cherished. Our best wishes go out to you and the family. I´ll say prayers for you and the family tomorrow.
Our thoughts are with you,
Barbara and Brendan McCormick

We are so saddened to learn of Rich´s passing. Rich and Dodee were neighbors of ours when we lived in Havre de Grace, and we very much enjoyed their company during our neighborhood gatherings. Rich was a great conversationalist. He was very socially engaging and loved to talk about cars
and his experiences working in the auto industry. Our sincere condolences to Dodee and her loving family for this devastating loss.

Although, I've only known Mr. Rich since September 18, 2024, the day after his 79th birthday, I felt like I've known him and Dodee-Dodee (as he affectionately called her) for a lifetime. As one of the family's caregivers, I had the privilege of spending time with him on a weekly basis- having serious conversations about his health, reading devotions, and enjoying his sense of humor. Everyday that I had the privilege of providing personal care to him was a joy, even when he fired me and then rehired me at the same time! It was never a dull moment with Mr. Rich (my buddy). I learned a lot from him, as I listened to him talk about automobiles. He told me that his favorite vehicle is the Cadillac Escalade, and every time I see one, it reminds me of him. I'm grateful to our God for allowing our paths to cross. And, I'm also grateful to the Giroux family for welcoming me into your lives, and trusting me with providing personal care services to Mr. Rich. I'm going to miss him immensely, but I am confident that I will see him again, on the other side. Rest in Paradise, my friend! You've done well! May God continue to bless the family during this season of your life! With Love, Veronica

One of the finest, most genuine men I have ever known. I am so very grateful to have worked with Rich for 17 years. He was a great manager and very supportive to all the Acura crew. Rich, you will be sorely missed. God Bless
