Richard Gorrie was an inspiration to me. I was one of many boys and leaders who spent years at VPS or Scripture Union camps in Scotland. He was a clear thinker, great speaker and always had a wisdom beyond his years - even though he was already so many years older than myself, one could appreciate that.
I learned so much about how to present a talk, public speaking and gained an instinct for leadership with him as a role model. He retired from being leading the camps round about the time I was a young leader myself but I always carried with me the thought "what would Richard Gorrie do" as did other more senior leaders.
I have lived overseas for the past 35 years so I must confess to being totally out of touch with his later career.
Thankyou Richard for your guidance, wisdom and leadership. You were a truly great man and most unselfish in your giving of your time and energy as well.
Margaret, my condolences and from those of us in Geelong, Victoria Australia: Olga my Austrian wife of 20 years, and children/step children - Douglas (Edinburgh) and Jeni (London), Anna (Canberra) and and Jakob (Wagga Wagga NSW), Florian and Laurenz (Grade 8 in Geelong).
