Richard Hammond

HAMMOND -Richard (Dick) Hammond passed away on November 1, 2005 at the age of 92. He was born on the family farm at Elrose on September 25, 1913, the third son of four, born to Florence and Frederick Hammond. He was predeceased by his parents; oldest brother, Les; son-in-law, Jack MacKenzie; two sisters-in-law (Ella and Helena Hammond); and three brothers-in-law (Harold Torrance, Ross Hintze, and Robert Hintze). He lived his entire life in Elrose making his living by farming and raising cattle. He married Henrietta (Hintze) on July 27, 1940. They enjoyed a lot of good times during their 65 years together raising five children and traveling the world. Throughout his life he was an active member in his community; town councilor, school board, Lions, Masons, hockey and baseball coach. He received a "Keeman Citation " recognition from Ducks Unlimited for his lifetime contributions. He had a personal love of hunting, fishing, curling, and traveling. He also loved a good game of poker. Most of all he loved the prairies, the hills, the sound of geese in the fall, and the wildlife in the country. He was a committed family man and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was having one his children or grandchildren "pop in " for a visit. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta; his five children: Mary Hammond, Canmore, Alberta; Alan (Jean) Hammond, Elrose; Doug (Sheila) Hammond, Elrose; Peggy MacKenzie, Saskatoon; Bev (Cliff) Orriss, Meadow Lake; his ten grandchildren, Shannon (Arny) Froese; Trent Hammond; Bradley (Karla) Hammond; Tamara (Stephen) Veason; Heather (Tyson) MacKenzie-Beaton; Tyler MacKenzie; Shawn MacKenzie; Jennifer (Ryan) Razzo; Jeff Orriss and Kelly Orriss. He has seven greatgrandchildren: Kody and Karrissa Hammond, Braylen, Cassidy and MacKenzie Veason; Julia Beaton; and Brody Froese. Dick also leaves to mourn his brothers, Fred (Helen) Hammond of Saskatoon and Bill Hammond of Elrose. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Elrose United Church. Services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elrose United Church with Reverend Mary-Jane Allan officiating. Clements' Rosetown Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
