Richard HIBBARD Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from May 10 to May 13, 2014.
HIBBARD, Richard James (Dick)
July 21, 1935 - May 4, 2014
It is with great sadness the family announces the unexpected passing of Richard James Hibbard of Vancouver, BC on May 4, 2014. Born in Halifax, NS, July 21st, 1935, "Dick", loving husband of Shannon, passed away peacefully at the CPMC in San Francisco with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shannon, daughter Julie (Tim), son Bruce (Margie), grandchildren Connor and Grace, and predeceased by his brother William. He was a lifetime member of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club, and Past Director of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Treasured memories include serving in the Navy, playing against the New Zealand All Blacks, fishing, especially at Langara, gardening and entertaining with family and friends. Dick was an ardent fundraiser for multiple causes; in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC Kidney Foundation. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 3 pm at the VLTBC.

Dick and I first met at University School and off and on over the earlier years in the Navy. He always used to convince his Mother that it was "George's fault" We had some great times to gether in our youth. The highlight was playing St Andrews olde course as Naval Cadets circa 1957. My condolences to the family.
Yours aye, George Jackson

Shannon and the entire family.

I have so many wonderful memories of fun-filled, delicious dinners at your beautiful home. My life is richer for having had your family in my life. I remember many laughs shared with Dick. He always made me smile. A gracious host, friend, father and spouse.

Loving thoughts to all of you.

We shared so many great times together-as naval cadets ashore and afloat. Dickie even managed to get us a dip in Mia Farrow's pool. Was so hoping to meet again at the Venture reunion in Ottawa to spin more dips.
Sincere condolance Shannon - we shall be hoisting one to Dickies' memory.

Dearest Shannon and Family, with my deepest sympathies to you all. Mum (Daphne Rowan-Legg) always spoke so highly of you and I know you enjoyed many hours of laughter together.
Thinking of you at this time of loss. Regards.
