Dr. Hughes. I greatly appreciated you for all the things that you did and the way that you cared for us students. You were a compassionate and yet driven soul, an inspiration for many. Thank You.

Although I've met Dr. Hughs only on one occasion at his home in Reno, he came across to me as one of the most compassionate and charitable person. Conversations we had are steep with knowledge, guidance and encouragement. The world had lost a great teacher, fatherly figure, mentor, coach, humanitarian, husband, father, grandfather. My heart feels for Mrs. Hughs who will have to carry on with a huge empty gap. Dick, may you rest in peace and we’ll miss you.

The impact Professor Hughes had on his students went beyond the lecture centers and classroom walls. Professor Hughes touched the lives of many people in a positive way and never to ask for anything on return. He truly fed the minds and souls of those he knew.
I will always remember him with wonderful memories. My sincere condolences to his family, especially to his lovely widow Gretchen, who opened the doors of their home on numerous occasions. I am fortunate to have met them both, I am sad for those he leaves behind but happy to know he is at a better place.

I had the pleasure as serving as counsel to the independent directors of the US Global Accolade Funds, and got to know Dick through that relationship. Dick was a kind, wonderful, thoughtful man. My deepest condolences to his wife Gretchen and the rest of his family. Dick will be missed, but not forgotten.

My heart is heavy w/ sorrow to hear of passing of Prof. Hughs. His kindness, sincerity, care, overarching wisdom, and love for life and his students, has made me realize that people like him are one of a kind. I regret for not expressing enough to him my gratitude and sincere appreciation for all of his support, advice, friendship, and just a kind word. He will be with us forever and his legacy will live within each one of us.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Hughs and family. Dr. Hughs was a "father to the world", an amazing educator, friend and father to many, including myself. I couldn't have achieved what I have without the guidance, encouragement, and friendship from Dr. Hughs. I wished I had had the chance to visit him the last time I went to CA in 2008. He will be forever remembered.

My deepest condolences to Mrs Hughs and family. I will always remember Prof Hughs as an honorable, kind, friendly, and dedicated professor... an amazing teacher and friend. I once threw a football a little too strong onto him, and I still feel guilty and sorry for that. May he rest in peace.

Dear Gretchen and Family :

The Rotary Club of Magkang's members in Udon Thani province, Thailand, had heard the news about your husband with great sorrows.

He visited us a few years ago, and was very impressed for his kind, and helpful characters. He has mentioned about a project to make clean water systems for the poor people of Udon Thani, and now we are working for that. It's too bad we couldn't make it faster. But, we know, he will be watching and following this project closely from afar, as that's his kind of character.

We know God always see good people, and that's who he will be with.
