Richard "Dick" J. Millo Sr. departed this world for the next at 8:28 PM on Friday, September 12, 2025.
Born in Bridgeport, CT, on November 10, 1940, Dick grew up working in the family business - P. Millo & Son Lumber Company and, with the knowledge and skills he gained there, he went on to build the family home on Turkey Roost Road in Monroe. It became the heart of family life for more than three decades, where he and his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Millo (Cannone), raised their three children.
Dick was an amazing husband and father, and providing for his family was always at the center of his life. He and Gwendolyn shared a deep love and enjoyed traveling together, especially to Florida, a place they cherished and visited often. His care, hard work, and commitment to family created a foundation of love and stability for which his children are forever grateful.
During his years in Monroe, Dick was active in local organizations including the Monroe Rod and Gun Club and Boy Scout Troop 162. In 1986, he opened The White Hills General Store in Shelton, CT, turning it into a successful business that served neighbors and friends, many of whom became like family. It was truly a family endeavor, as at different times each of his children worked alongside him there, making it a shared part of their lives and memories.
After Gwendolyn's passing in 2001, Dick enjoyed spending time at his son Rick Millo's business, Valley Firearms in Shelton, CT, and took great pride in watching him build a thriving shop, just as his own father had done before him.
In his later years, Dick made his home in South Carolina with his loving partner, Marge Ignatowski and together they enjoyed the company of both of their families living nearby and could often be found playing the slot machines at the local casinos.
His son Joe Millo lived close by, and they shared many regular lunches and monthly Sunday Movie Afternoons. Pops also enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Laurie Millo, in Tequesta, Florida, where they spent many happy days on the water and by the pool. He especially loved working on his tan and soaking up the Florida sun.
Above all, Dick was a devoted family man-a son, a brother, a spouse, a father, a proud grandfather to Avery and Abby Millo, an uncle and a friend to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of simple joys, his generosity of spirit and the quiet strength that continues to inspire those he leaves behind. He was also the best storyteller, able to bring laughter, warmth and life to every tale he shared; a gift his family and friends will never forget.
Funeral services will be private, yet the love he gave, and the memories he created, will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
