Richard James "Dick" Boland Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 21, 2025.
Nashville - Richard James "Dick" Boland, 82, of Antioch, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2025. Born on February 21, 1943, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to Edward Lewis Boland and Rose Marie Raduazzo, Dick lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to family and community.

Dick's story with his beloved wife, Glenda Wages, began in 1960 during study hall at North Augusta High School in South Carolina, where he was a senior and she a sophomore. Their high school romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership, leading to their marriage on February 15, 1964, while Dick attended Clemson University. After graduating, the couple settled in the Augusta, Georgia, area, where they welcomed their two daughters, Jenny and Susan.

Dick's career began at Enterprise Mill in Augusta during his college years and continued at Townsend Mill in Graniteville. He later accepted a position with DuPont in Camden, South Carolina, marking the start of a distinguished career. In 1981, DuPont relocated the Boland family to Nashville, Tennessee, where Dick continued his professional journey until his retirement.

In retirement, Dick embraced volunteer work, contributing his time and talents to several organizations. Tutoring elementary and high school students at area schools, driving for the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, volunteering at Vanderbilt's Infusion Clinic, Gilda's Club, and serving as a cancer educator helping others cope with illness or loss and cancer research. His commitment to community service earned him a nomination for the 2010 Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Award, given to volunteers who give their time and talents to improve the community. An avid traveler, Dick, alongside Glenda, cherished adventures to Myrtle Beach, SC, and Florida with their young family, and later to Hilton Head, SC, and Sanibel Island, FL. His passions also included running, golf, and cycling, but his greatest joy was being a devoted father and grandfather.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Jenny Boland (Michael White) of Brentwood and Susan Davenport (Steven Davenport) of Mt. Juliet, and his cherished granddaughter, Justine Boland (Erick Floyd) of Smyrna. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenda, and siblings Margaret Damiano, Barbara Lumsden, Edward "Speed" Boland, Paul Boland, and Jean Thompson.

Visitation will be held at Mount Olivet Funeral Home & Cemetery on April 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, immediately followed by Dick's interment at Calvary Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside Glenda. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gilda's Club Middle Tennessee, which offers support to those affected by cancer.

May Dick's memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
