Richard Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2025.
Richard Timothy Johnson of Los Gatos, California, died with courage and serenity at Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame on August 8th, 2025 at age 57, surrounded by his daughter, parents, and friends.

Richard attended Van Meter Elementary School, Fisher Middle School, and Los Gatos High School, graduating in 1986. He was a Boy Scout and achieved Eagle rank, with his project the design, construction, and supervision of the installation of a garden seating area at the family church, Los Gatos United Methodist Church. He attended West Valley College and built his first career in construction, working as a finish carpenter and crew foreman. His fluency in Spanish and attention to detail were among his strong assets in his work.

Following an accident and subsequent rehabilitation, he advocated for the disability community in his work with a disability law firm to ensure that area businesses met ADA compliance and that disabled patrons had full access to all services. As an avocation, Richard was a bookbinder, repairing and restoring vintage and beloved books for family, friends, and private libraries.

Richard built a strong reputation as a public speaker in high demand throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, sharing his life experiences and providing inspiration and motivation to thousands. He supported individuals with advice and counsel grounded in faith, respect for self and others, and connection to community through service and joy. His humor, attitude, thoughts, and wisdom made a positive difference in countless lives.

Richard is survived by his daughter Hannah Stacia Johnson of Los Altos Hills; his parents Thomas and Marilyn Johnson of Los Gatos; his brother Michael Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister Alison Johnson and her husband Matthew Campbell of Altadena, California; and their daughter Heather Campbell of San Luis Obispo, California.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 23rd 2025 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at The Commons Clubhouse, 449 Alberto Way, Los Gatos.
