Richard John Kasich

Age 67

With great sadness, we announce that Richard John Kasich, 67, died peacefully on September 8, 2023, from pulmonary-related issues at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born in McKees Rocks and a man of profound religious faith, Rick was undoubtedly ushered into heaven. He will be deeply missed.

Always a deep thinker, Rick graduated from Penn State University in 1978 with a degree in Philosophy. He enjoyed sharing his thoughts and beliefs with nearly everyone he met. Those who met him found Rick to have a unique personality - a very intelligent and funny man led by a strong Christian faith. While he parted ways with the church, he never left behind the teachings of Christ. He deeply contemplated his faith - something he tried to instill in almost everyone who crossed his path.

And he had a great love of music. He spent countless hours making and listening to music cassette tapes that ranged from Bob Dylan and Crosby Stills & Nash to the soundtrack from Godspell.

Rick was elected president of his high school class, named as one of three students featured on the television show Battle of the Witts, an All-Star baseball player and captain of the

Sto-Rox High School golf team. After graduating from college, Rick was diagnosed with a mental illness. He worked loading mail trucks for over two decades at a Pittsburgh post office.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anne Kasich, Andrea Kasich, his uncle, George Kasich, his girlfriend, Jackie, and his beloved cat, Rain. He is survived by John Kasich and his wife, Karen, of Westerville, OH; Donna Kasich Seward and her husband, Bill, of Oakland, MD and Harry Griser (cousin) and his wife, Janice, of Pittsburgh, PA. His two nieces also survive him. The family will hold a small private ceremony at a later date.

I met Rick aka Pope at Penn State. He moved out of the dorm, which opened up a space for me with his high school friend. We became friends because of our mutual interest in music. I had lost touch with him but we reconnected about three years ago. He told me how he had lost a CCR cd. I bought him one for Christmas and every time I called him, that CD was playing. He was a good man and I am sorry to see him gone, although I am sure he is singing with my younger brother Kevin, who passed almost 13 years ago (they used to sing in the dorm at PSU frequently).
