Steve and Mark, my heart ached when Sandy told me the news of Rick’s death. Words seem so inadequate, but with this note come my heart filled with love and sympathy on your loss. Love, Susan

I remember Rick fondly from the Band at Marple Newtown High School, Keystone Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and as charter members of Crossmen. Not only was Rick a great member of those units but he was a good person. Rick loved to drum! He was kind, fun, and patient. He will be missed by all who ever knew him.

Rick assisted with the Crossmen drumline the 2 years that I marched...1977-78. He always put in the long hours required to rehearse the drumline and was willing to do what it took, and sometimes with a grain of humor thrown in for good measure. I remember the incredible proud moment of congrats by him just before marching onto the field in Denver in the Crossmen's 1st DCI finals, and I won't forget it. RIP ....Bob Gross

My deepest & most sincere sympathies to the Kawecki family. I'm still in shock, as I'm sure everyone else is.
Aside from the fact that we were both classmates and of the same graduating class (Marple-Newtown 1972), Rick & I were very close drumming comrades and marched together for almost 4 years in the Marple-Newtown High School Rudimental Drumline and soon after, both joined the Keystone Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, which later evolved into what is now The Crossmen. Rick's contribution to the World of Drum Corps as both performer & teacher is priceless, and as a full-time musician myself, having played with some of the most accomplished musicians in world, I can honestly say that Rick was one of the most talented Rudimental Bass Drummers I know. He could also play a mean drum kit.
I have many fond memories of my old friend Rick and he will be sorely missed. Just wish I had a chance to say goodbye to him.
May God rest his soul.
With Love,
Ruth (Tobin) Hudzina

I started marching in Tri-Community at the age of 12. When we merged with Brookhaven to form Keystone Regiment I met Rick. My fondest memories of him are his playing the triples (George of the Jungle) for our guard shows. That was our signature cadence. We used to hang out and go to a lot of shows together. Another good memory with him was our trip to Lynn, Mass. He was a good bud. I'm sorry we lost touch over the years. You'll be missed Rick.
