Richard Kellerman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2025.
Richard Frederick Kellerman passed away peacefully at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at his home in East Norriton, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the comfort of the place he shared with his beloved wife, Kathleen Ann Kellerman.

Born on September 11, 1947, at Hackensack Hospital in New Jersey, Richard was raised in Carlstadt, where he first displayed his athletic talents in basketball and baseball. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, complemented by a deep love for fishing and carpentry-pursuits he approached with both skill and joy.

Richard's lifelong connection to the water brought him peace and fulfillment. From the Meadowlands and Barnegat Bay in his youth to Long Island Sound near the family's longtime home in Connecticut, and later to vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake George, he found serenity with a fishing rod in hand. The spirit of these moments was beautifully reflected in his favorite song, "Cool Change" by Little River Band.

He studied horticulture at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, nurturing a lifelong appreciation for nature and gardening. The family moved from New Jersey to Newtown, Connecticut, where they lived for 17 years before spending 21 years in the Poconos and eventually settling in the Philadelphia area.

Richard enjoyed a successful career in corporate sales, concluding with a tenure at ExxonMobil before retiring.

He was the son of Dorothy Assenheimer and Frederick Kellerman. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his sister, Carol Huber; his sons Scott (fiancée Stephanie) and Michael (husband Nick); and his cherished grandsons Luke, Daniel, and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Kerry in 2013.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation (parkinson.org) or The Michael J. Fox Foundation (michaeljfox.org).

I didn't plant a tree. I bought a fishing pole instead. Don't know how to use the damn thing, so I hung it on the wall in memory of my friend. God bless Richard Kellerman.

He was the greatest, most down to earth and funniest uncle a guy could ever ask for. There were too many great times out on the lakes and just hanging around the house that I will never forget. I celebrate his life tonight by enjoying a delicious dessert instantly after finishing dinner. It was his favorite thing that he always looked forward too during our family gatherings. I am happy that he is now at peace and that he gets to reconnect with his daughter Kerry. His legacy and memories I have with him will last a lifetime.

I wanted to give my heart felt sympathy to the Kellerman family and to tell them that I only wish there was so much more that could have been done for him Neurologically. By the time I got to know him I know he had lost some of his awareness but despite that he still exhibited a sense of humor and an obvious love for family and enjoyment for life Thank you for allowing me to know him and treat him.
