Richard Kinsler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 14, 2024.
Richard "Dick" Kinsler passed away peacefully in his home in Wilmington DE on Saturday, April 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dick was born on October 4, 1928 in Philadelphia PA and was raised by his parents Mildred and Alan McGoldrick in Darby PA. During his childhood, Dick developed a love of baseball while playing in the streets and playgrounds around his home. He became quite a good pitcher and in 1947 was invited to try out for the Phillies, where he pitched batting practice for several seasons. He then went on to play semi-pro ball for Norwood in the Delco League for many years.

Dick met the love of his life, Jean Marie Sheehan, in 1954, and they were married two years later in 1956. They welcomed two children, Richard in 1962, and Kristin in 1966, and started a family in Norwood PA before moving to Wilmington in 1969.

Dick retired from ARCO in Philadelphia PA after 36 years of service in the Finance & Employee Relations Departments. Dick then spent the next 25 years working at Stanley's Tavern in North Wilmington, first as the Package Store Manager, and then as the Restaurant's Beverage Manager.

Dick had an ever-present smile on his face and the kindest heart to match. His always positive attitude was contagious to all he touched in his 95 1/2 years. Everyone who knew Dick couldn't help but be drawn in by his happy, upbeat attitude and warm smile.

Dick was very proud of his two grandchildren, Dakota & Jacy, and loved watching them grow through the years into adulthood. He also loved his grand-puppies, Loki & Willow, and provided them with endless treats when they visited. He looked forward to his favorite meal, breakfast, made by his personal chef, son-in-law, Sean, every morning. With Dick, family was always first...no matter what.

He really enjoyed playing golf and had a regular group he played with for years, even notching two holes in one after turning 70!

His favorite times to play golf, however, was during their annual spring trips to Palm Desert where he would play golf with his son, a tradition that lasted 25 years.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jean Kinsler. He is survived by his son, Rick Kinsler of Long Beach CA, his daughter, Kris Hague, her husband Sean and their children, Dakota & Jacy Hague, all of Claymont DE.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Nicole Scott, from Christiana Home Health Care, for going above and beyond in the loving care she provided to Dick and Jean over the years. Nicole was not only a godsend to our parents but to us as well.

In addition, we would like to thank Accent Care Hospice, especially Beth & Shawntelle, for the loving care they provided to our dad before his passing.

Services were held privately.

I will always remember Dick as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always had a smile on his face, and something funny to say! You will be missed by all who loved you but there´s peace knowing that you are together again with Jean. Rest in peace until we meet again.
