Richard KLEIN Obituary

Richard Thompson Klein, 96, died peacefully January 23, 2014 at Spring Lake Village, Santa Rosa, surrounded by his family. Born April 7, 1917 in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dick grew up in Monrovia, CA. where he met his high school sweetheart, Jan Gale, whom he married in 1940. Dick attended USC where he was a varsity cheerleader. This opened the door to several appearances in college themed Hollywood films with stars such as Ronald Reagan and Betty Grable. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Dick was a long time commercial credit executive with Sears on the west coast. He and Jan moved to Cloverdale after his retirement, then to Santa Rosa to be closer to their grandchildren. Jan died in 1995 after 55 years of marriage and Dick moved to Spring Lake Village not long afterwards. Dick was an avid USC football fan, gardener and he Jan enjoyed traveling the world. He was a loyal supporter of all his grandkids' activities. Dick was known for his dapper way of dressing and signature bow ties. Mr. Klein is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard G. Klein and Dr. Kathleen Gregory Klein of Gloucester, VA; son and daughter-in-law Roger Klein D.V.M and Julie McCray Klein of Sebastopol and three grandchildren; Emilie, Natalie, and Barrett, all living in Sonoma County. Funeral arrangements, per Dick's request, are private. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to either Sutter Care at Home Hospice, 110 Stony Point Road #200 C, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 or Animal Shelter League of Rohnert Park 301 J.
