Richard Levy

Dick, a San Rafael native, was born in the Old Cottage Hospital in San Rafael in1931. He passed away on January 11, 2023 in San Rafael where he lived for 91 years. He was the son of William and Florence Levy and from infancy, was raised by his Great Grandmother Sophia Lowery.Dick attended elementary school at E Street, Laurel Dell and B Street Schools. He graduated from San Rafael High in 1949, where he excelled in baseball. He was recruited by the St. Louis Cardinals but was unable to accept. He regretted this his entire life.After graduation, Dick was employed by AG Schoonmaker of Sausalito later being drafted into the Army and sent to Germany. Upon an honorable discharge, Dick went on to attend college in San Francisco and receive a degree in education. He taught at Harry Ells and De Anza High Schools in Richmond. Ford Motor Company recognized his work and recruited him. He worked for Ford for 25 years.Dick was a sports enthusiast, especially baseball and hockey. He loved coaching his son Jim. After retirement, he enjoyed his home, collecting model airplanes, walking his dogs and trips to the family cabin in Tahoe where the family spent many happy years together.Dick was a "Good Guy." He loved people, made friends easily, loved to talk and loved his family. He is survived by his wife Peggy of 63 years, son James, daughter in law Annie, grandchildren Taylor, Ryan and Brendan and great grandson Carson. He was pre deceased by son Richard, age 2.Services will be private, in the family plot. Remembrances to your favorite charity.
