l always remember you Uncle Richard as a great uncle and physical education teacher while I was in junior high school. You made me perform what I normally would have done in PE class, simply because you were my uncle. I felt that I could not let you down. Thank you for the time I had to share with you and the memories you have left us with in his life. Rest in peace.

Mr. Ludy was my health teacher. He was always as so much fun in that class. We had a great class of students. I loved going to baseball games after school to watch him coach. I have 3 boys that played ball and went through the Boyertown Legion. I sure wish Dick Ludy was still coaching when they went through!! He was a baseball legend! I was good friends with Brian at one time too. My condolences to the whole family. May he rest in peace. Sherry Wieand

So many nice stories about his teaching and involvement in real-estate, it makes one wonder why he ever left those professions. I do remember that story about the big elephant in the back of the room no one notices though

Ricardo was one of my favorite coaches. His love of the game rubbed off on all of those around him. He taught me to love pitching and, how it was more than just throwing a ball. Out of all my memories one sticks out to me the most. Every time we´d go to McDonald´s he´d order a burger with nothing on it. He´d say it three times and like clock work turn to us and say "if you say it 3 times you have a chance of them getting it correct"... they never did. RIP to the king of baseball!

He was IT! The baseball coach that knew the game and could get that knowledge to his players. He taught me the quality of coaching that I teach to this day! God bless you Dick and all of your loved ones! My prayers and condolences to the family! Your players loved you!!

He was a really good guy. He was a Special Asst Coach my 16 year old Legion season. I loved our conversations and he always made me laugh. After my playing days were over and I started coaching, he would stop by and see me. We would talk for 5 or 10 minutes each time... I always looked forward to those conversations.

Coach Ludy was my baseball coach in junior high, high school and legion. Later, in 1981, I had the pleasure of coaching with him the year Boyertown H.S. won their first state championship. He had a brilliant baseball mind and an extremely quick wit. He could always make me laugh!

Mr. Ludy was my both of my brother's baseball coach and he was also one of my teachers. He always had amazing baseball teams and had many players move on to college and professional ball. He was a good man! I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Sending prayers to his family during this difficult time

So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Was fortunate to spend approx. 5 years with him as one of our coaches with the Bearcats with far too many tourneys, games, championships and experiences to ever write about. He always was committed to excellence every step of the way and as active as anyone younger than him. Between stories, jokes, knowledge, strategies, philosophies, overall passion for the game and the kids he coached, the memories and times spent with him will last a lifetime. Every one of the kids he coached are better today (in life as a whole) because of the experiences and lessons he taught on the field. I was fortunate to be at a dinner with him in Reading, Pa as he was honored as, "The KING of Baseball". There are no truer words spoken! RIP Dick! You're a legend and will be missed!

When I was around 7 years old I got to sleep over at Uncle Richard and Aunt Fay´s house. I brought my own breakfast which was Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes . Richard actually questioned my breakfast choice which at the time scared me a bit. Looking back I think he was just jealous that I didn´t bring any for him. :).
My second memory is one I am sure the majority of Boyertown shares and that is watching and listening ( thank you WPAZ) to Richard lead the legion team to a World Series Championship. My favorite baseball watching years were the years he coached my cousins Kevin Frain, and Brian and Chris Ludy. Great memories with Uncle Richard.

Besides watching him coach, one of the memories I will remember is when I went the 1st day to my health class and there he was as my teacher. It went quite well even when the topic of sex ed came up. We always just grinned at each other. RIP Uncle Richard !

One of my favorite memory´s of Richard (poppop) was a silly trick he did to make us laugh when we were kids. He would pretend like his thumb was cut in half and the way he did it it really looked like it was cut in half. I´m trying to do it right now and i can´t do it as good as he did. he would also pretend to blow up his hand like a balloon and then deflate it and it was the best.
