Richard Marlatt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 19, 2017.
Richard Howard Marlatt, known as Dick to friends and family, 84, passed in his sleep on July 18, 2017, at the Marquis Plum Ridge facility in Klamath Falls following complications from congestive heart failure and pneumonia.
He leaves his wife, Judith Jane Marlatt (Parkinson), of 60 years and daughters, Lisa Mulvey, Beth Marlatt and Margot Marlatt.
He was born in Mount Clemens, Mich., on Oct. 22, 1932, to Albert L. Marlatt and Helen Crosley Tennant. After graduating from Mt. Clemens High School in 1950, Dick attended ROTC Naval Officers training in 1953 and was in active duty as a lieutenant jr. grade from May 1955 through January 1958. He completed his undergraduate degree at Wayne State University in marketing, where he met Judy and they married during his active enlistment in November 1956. During that time, he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, Beta Omicron Chapter and was vice president of the Wayne State University Student Council in School of Business Administration 1952-53. In 1964, he completed his master's in business administration at Wayne State University.
Dick came to Klamath Falls in March 1971, where he and his wife Judy purchased the old Johnston home at 1147 East St. and remained there for 40 years. During that time, he and Judy did a major restoration of the property, attempting to bring it back to its original condition.
Dick was civically active throughout his life. While in Klamath Falls, he was involved as a member of the Klamath Falls Planning Commission and Klamath Falls Kiwanis Club. He was elected as governor of the State of Jefferson in 1980, commodore of the Klamath Yacht Club 1980-81, was a member of the Klamath Civic Theatre and a founding member of the Pelican Players, dba Linkville Players. He was involved in forming the Plum Ridge Symphony and in general a supporter of the arts in the Klamath Falls area. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church as both senior warden and head of two search committees for rector. He was a member of the U.S. Navy as a combat information center officer flying with AEW Eleven out of Patuxent River, Md., Argentina and Newfoundland.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judith J. Marlatt, and his three daughters, Lisa Mulvey (Mick) of Klamath Falls, Beth Marlatt (Paul Glinski) of Tucson, Ariz., and Margot Marlatt (Rob Sovinski) of Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, Jessica Mulvey of Klamath Falls, Devon Icenbice (Jason) of North Bend, Ore., Aleena Glinski of Tucson, Theodore Marlatt Sovinski and Jane Emily Sovinski of Lafayette; and one great-grandchild, Alexis Becker of Klamath Falls.
There will be no service at Dick's request. There will be a celebration of life at a future date, which will be held at the Klamath Yacht Club. Friends may send donations to the Linkville Players Foundation at P.O. BOX 716, Klamath Falls, OR 97601-0038.

Thanks to all of you who posted your memories about Dick. I remember him rescuing me more than once. Never did he shame me, but just laughed at my situations and gave me to feel everything was going to be alright. I love you Dad.

To Judy, Lisa, Beth and Margot,
Ardis and I were sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Our condolences to his "harem" and the rest of his family. We have fond memories of huge family dinner parties at 125 Miller Street, High Twelve Minstrel shows, Fidelity Investment Co., and BRAD [Billiard Research & Development]. Dick was one of the first people I met after moving to Klamath Falls. Such a fun, lively character - not only on stage but in real life. My condolences to his family.

Dick was a lovely gentleman who loved his family and was a great citizen of Klamath Falls. They restored the old Victorian to a glorious home they shared with family and friends and it was full of joy and laughter. I will always remember Dick as a kind sweet man who always made me feel welcome in their home.
