The passing of Richard was made known to me yesterday. He was a friend of my aunt Muriel and my CEO for fourteen years. I have many anecdotes to share but will not do that here. Richard has many legacies he leaves behind. One in particular stands out to me. That legacy is the employment he gave to thousands of people from the area. If you needed a job, he gave you one. If you did your job, you kept it. He has given his employees much much more than a paycheck. He gave them all a sense of self worth. He saved lives by giving employment and importance to souls who were either lost or losing faith in the world. Souls who otherwise would have met a fate or existence of crime or death. You belonged to something at specialty records. You were a part of it. You were not mearly a number there. You were a person with a purpose. Richard saw to that everyday. The name of the company was indeed correct. It was special. Richard saw to that as well.
As I reflect on Richard today, I am not sad that he passed. I am grateful that he lived...and helped this poor lost soul to a better life.

It was a sad day when I received Rick's note in regards to the passing of Mr. Marquardt. It was a privilege and honor to have known Mr. Marquardt and his Family. Many great memories (during my PSU Days, you all were my second Family)! He was truly a man of integrity and honor, and was the BEST Father. My thoughts are with you all.

So very sorry to hear that Richard has died , he was the greatest boss I have ever worked for , he made me feel like family when he would talk to me in tape duplicating . We are so sorry to hear the sad news of Richards' passing. Richard was a remarkable man. His employees were his family. Everyone knew Richard by name and all were delighted to have a conversation with him when he would come down to the production floor to visit. Richard made sure we were appreciated. Richard was highly respected by managers and employees and all the music industry. Employees were proud to work for Specialty Records and the empire Richard had built. Richard will always be remembered. I will never forget his kindness. Our condolences to the Marquardt family.

I am very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I worked with him at the very start of Specialty Records and he was truly a wonderful person to work for. He treated employees like family. God Bless and prayers to the family.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. Those of us who had the pleasure of working for Richard will always remember him as a gentleman, who respected and appreciated his staff. Richard undeniably led by example. He will truly be missed. So many wonderful memories at Lehigh University, Waverly, and John's Island! 65 years of friendship doesn't come along every day. So long to Richard, my friend, and a highly successful and admired gentleman.

As a professional musician I am delighted that his many talents and acute business skills provided the transmission and enjoyment of the beautiful gift of music to so many listeners world wide for so long!

What an amazing legacy he has left and which continues today and how wonderful was his loyalty and dedication for so many years to the economy and work force of his Northeastern Pennsylvania roots!

My condolences to the Marquardt Family in this time of sorrow. Richard was the ultimate gentleman and a wonderful man. I worked for him for years and learned so much from him on how to be as a person and a leader he will be forever missed!

So sorry to hear of Richard passing. He made Specialty Records a great place to work, it was a pleasure to work for Specialty Records / WEA. I will always remember him greeting every single employee and he knew all our names. There will never be another company like Specialty Records. God Bless.

Mr. Marquardt--a kind and generous man, I knew him as a friends' father but after reading the comments from his colleagues, even more impressive. God bless the Marquardt Family.

Whether he was flying to Manhattan in the helicopter, eating lunch at a different table everyday with the hourly workers in the cafeteria, or picking up trash from the floor at Specialty Records, Richard was the epitome of a hard-working and humble executive. Your Father was one of the finest examples of a great man that ever came from this area. His unique ability lay in the fact that he respected and was genuinely interested in every person in his employ. I enjoyed any meeting I had with him and was always of the opinion he was ahead of his time.
