Richard Matulewicz

Richard Andrew Matulewicz, 75, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in Des Plaines, Illinois. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Born in Poland, Richard immigrated to the United States with his family in 1962, settling in Chicago. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he rose to the rank of captain. It was during his uncle's wedding that he met the love of his life, Lucy (née Krolicka). Together, Richard and Lucy built a life and raised a family in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Richard dedicated nearly 30 years of service to DePaul University, where he was a respected and valued member of Facility Operations.

A quiet man by nature, Richard found joy in simple pleasures. He loved a long walk around a local lake, a Chicago-style hotdog, watching old Star Trek reruns, and never missed a good Clint Eastwood movie. He was a steady presence to those who knew him. A man of few words, his life was a testament to hard work, generosity, and quiet dedication.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine, and his beloved wife Lucy, with whom he shared 50 years. He is survived by his children Julie Matulewicz, Jim Matulewicz (Melissa), and Joanne Matulewicz; and by his cherished grandchildren Charlie, Jacob, and Jonathan, who affectionately knew him as Dziadzio. He is also survived by his sisters Wanda (Ted) Matras, Myra Steinys, Jane (Al) Arreguin, and Donna (Chris) McGuiggan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
