Rev. Richard L. McCurdy

Richard, you are still with us, and you know that as well as our Lord Jesus Christ. I have heard of your travles within the State, from my brother, your other cousin, Darwin.Your work was to the greater glory of God. May God have mercy on your soul and keep you in His grace.

Dick was a poet. Dick was not a mechanic. Yet he wrestled with all the mechanical devils to put my birthday bike together 52 years ago.

Thank you, Dick, for being part of the Maher family and thus part of my life. We shared the same Godmother, so to me, that always meant we were related. You were a gift.

Dick loved me and taught me to love myself.

This amazing man is nearly as responsible as my own parents for helping to shape who I am and how I live my life. The ways in which he taught me to think for myself, as well as the unique challenges he posed to me to better and to find my own true inner self, will always be with me. He showed me that an act of love is an act of God, that woeful things come and go while there is always an underlying good, and that happiness is a choice. It is from Father McCurdy that I learned patience, and it is from him that I learned to be a centered human being. I will miss him deeply, but his wisdom will always be with me.

that held so much personal wisdom - he so knew us, himself, and life's impact.

A mentor, friend as well as a teacher. I was fortunate enough to have "Mr. McCurdy" the first year he taught at S.I.. May God continue to hold you tenderly in the hollow of His hand. Thank you Father McCurdy.

An unusual and uplifting guide to all who sat in his classes as he freed our spirits or followed him with his walking stick in the Los Gatos hills.

Father McCurdy, I will pray for you to night, as I always did when you were at Sutter Roseville Hospital. God bless you Father, and have a safe jurnery home.

I learned that "Happiness is a choice" from Father McCurdy and I will never forget it. His patience and wisdom coated his teaching making his AP English class very powerful changing every senior's perspective of the world. His daily ritual of smoking a cigar outside the Jesuits' quarters was always friendly as he listened to every student and challenged them to improve themselves and their lives.

Fr. McCurdy was a wonderful man. He will be missed by many.

My prayers reach out to the family of the most creative and imaginative professor that I had the pleasure of studying under at Loyola, Los Angeles, CA.
