Richard McDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2025.
Richard Patrick McDonald, 74, passed away on September 9, 2025 at his home in Yuma, Arizona. He was attended by his wife, Edith, through his final days. A celebration of life will be held at The Red Oak Restaurant in Bristol, Wisconsin November 1, 2025 from noon to 3pm.

Richard was born on St. Patrick's Day 1951 in St.Louis, Mo. to Clifford and Janney McDonald, the first of four children.

In his thirties, Richard moved to Lake County, IL where he lived and worked for over two decades. He and his co-pilot Edith spent 10 years traveling North America, living full time in their RV. Finally, he settled in Yuma, AZ to enjoy the sun and sand he so loved.

A devoted Cubs fan, he will be remembered for his generosity and the love of his children and grandchildren, some of whom shared his appreciation for baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Edith McDonald; his two daughters, Tina (Brad) Staven and Jennifer (Justin) Schild; their mother, Shelley Jamison; grandchildren: Chelsea, Taylor, Ryan, Jacob, Samantha, Kyle, and Jenna; and four great-grandchildren: Brayden, Jayce, Kaiden, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his sisters Mary, Kathleen and Patricia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Fill a Heart 4 Kids, an organization in Lake County, Illinois supporting foster children and homeless children.

Friends and family are invited to share memories of Richard at The Red Oak Restaurant in Bristol, Wisconsin on November 1, 2025 from noon to 3pm.

To the McDonald family. I'm so sorry for the loss of your big brother, Rich, and husband and father. I loved living in Spanish Lake especially on Farmview Drive. I think about the families all the time and still meet with some of the old "lakers" once in a while. Rich was a little older than I, but I still remember his three sisters, Mary, Kathy and Patricia. God will take Rich where he needs to be. Be tough ladies. God bless all you guys.
With sympathy,
Gregg Bingham
