Richard Moran Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 1, 2025.
CRYSTAL LAKE, ILLINOIS - Richard Moran, 91, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, formerly of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, passed away peacefully Friday, December 30, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on January 5, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Emma Moran. He married Barbara Pence Moran on September 14, 1957 and raised five children. He later married his beautiful lady with the blue hat, Jeri Keach on August 2, 1987, and spent 36 wonderful years together.

In his nearly 92 years of life, he touched the lives of so many. Richard graduated from North High School in Minneapolis and then served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy under the Korean Bill. He then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Finance degree in three years. He successfully completed his CPA and spent decades in the accounting and finance fields. He had a lengthy career with Arthur Andersen and Company and was Chief Financial Officer of American Farm Equipment and Wells Manufacturing. Richard continued doing personal and corporate income taxes until shortly before his passing.

Richard enjoyed life to the fullest. His day began with a trip to the health club working out and staying active with a group of friends. He also ran a couple of marathons. He loved time with his wife Jeri dancing, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. He had many great friends including Bill and Natalie Conrardy, and Jerry and Jeanne Custode. Richard was an avid golfer and member at Bull Valley Golf Club where he spent quality time with his friend Dominic Scopa and his sons golfing until age 90. Remarkably, this is also where he shot a hole-in-one! He took fishing trips with his daughter Stefany, son Brad, and son-in-law Dave in Canada and had great laughs and bonding moments. In his final days, we often saw him "winking" at his beautiful wife. The family is particularly grateful to Jeri for her love, companionship, and care for their Dad.

Surviving Richard are his wife, Jeri; five children: Jeffrey Moran (Tami) of Upland, California, Gregory Moran (Michael) of West Dundee, Illinois, Timothy Moran (Sonja) of Barrington, Illinois, Stefany Currier (Dave) of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Bradley Moran (Michele) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Stepson Christopher Keach of McHenry, Illinois; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Emma Moran; brothers Clarence (Pat) and George (Clara); and sister, Lorraine (Jack) Gregory.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a future time. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to one of two charities: Reel Recovery (www.realrecovery.org) is a national non-profit organization that conducts free fly-fishing retreats for men living with all forms of cancer. Honor Flight (www.honorflight.org) sponsors trips to celebrate America's veterans by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation's memorials or any charity of your choice.

I met Dick at National Fitness and we were workout buddies for years. After National closed we both went to Fitness 19 where we met Sam Paglini!! Those are some great memories of those 2 special men. Sam passed a few years ago after a brief illness and his larger than life personality was greatly missed. I had such respect for Dick, as he was the same age as my mother, and to see him working out daily was inspiring! I'm so sorry I never got to say goodbye to Dick! Rest with the angels my friend!
