Richard Muir Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2025.
Richard Muir, 81, passed away on February 23, 2025, in Alachua, Florida.

Born on November 6, 1943, in Leeds, Alabama, Richard grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for people that would define his life. He graduated from Leeds High School in the class of 1962, where he played football and formed lifelong friendships.

Richard's career began at the young age of 14 when he took a job as a bag boy at Western Supermarket in Leeds. His dedication and natural ability to connect with others led him to become a store manager, marking the beginning of his long career in the grocery industry. Even after Western Supermarket closed its doors, Richard continued managing various supermarkets throughout Leeds and Birmingham until his retirement. Never one to sit idle, he then pursued his passion for lawn care by starting his own business. He took great pride in making his customers' lawns, shrubs, and flower gardens beautiful-an extension of his own love for nature and meticulous attention to detail. Flowers and gardening were among Richard's greatest passions, bringing him peace and fulfillment.

Richard was a man who never met a stranger. His humor and warmth made him an instant friend to anyone he encountered. Whether sharing a laugh or offering words of encouragement, he had a way of brightening the lives of those around him. His love for conversation was matched only by his devotion to family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sharon; his children, Christie Bryant Collins (Brandon), Kim Ledlow (Shane), Casey Muir-Taylor, and Becky Wilbourn (Robert); his stepchildren, Kathleen Weinert (David), Andrew Vigus (Sue), and Christopher Bowen; his sister Cindy Davis (Ronny) and brother Ronald Muir (Pam); six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Geraldine Muir; his brother Marvin Muir; and his great-granddaughter Korra Smith.

A memorial service will be held on March 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, located at 2001 Cedar Grove Road in Leeds, Alabama.

Richards memory will live on through the laughter he shared and the kindness he extended to all who knew him.

Love and prayers to all the family. Richard was such a wonderful man. One of the "Good Guys," they don't make them like him anymore. He was so kind and friendly. He never met a stranger and was always ready to put a smile on someone's face. He loved flowers and designed gardens everywhere he lived and for others. He was such a good worker and dedicated to his work. I can't say anything but wonderful about Richard. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed by so very many!! Fly high Richard untill we meet again!

Being a transplant from Illinois in 2022, I had all kinds of questions about the weather patterns and plant growing cycles of my new home. Well, the Lord provided me with all the information I would ever need when Richard and Sharon moved into their house three doors down from me.

Before long, Richard, our neighbor Alexander, and I realized we had a mutual interest - we enjoyed eating a big breakfast. And so, we became "breakfast buddies". I regret that I didn't make the time more frequently to eat breakfast with Richard. My one consolation is remembering how busy Richard was with his family functions and his lawn care business.

Pam and I will continue to lift Sharon and Richard's family up in prayer.

As an old friend of this good man since elementary school, I would like to say that his is one of the nicest and good-hearted people I've known in my life. Sincere condolences to Richard's family and friends.
