I just heard about Rich's death through a U of A newsletter. He and I were like brothers for a couple of years while I worked at O'Rielly Chevrolet. Some of the best times of my life were spent with him and yes he could most certainly light up any room he walked into as charismatic individual as I have ever came across. Sorry for your loss O'Rielly family.

Dear Uncle Buck, Aunt Bobbie, Amy and Rob,
Words could never convey the loss. Our Love, thoughts and prayers are with you.
When thinking of Rich, I always remember his face as he drove his new Camaro. God, he Loved that car.
Reflecting more, we are reminded of what an outstanding and exceptional person he always was. Even when we were just young boys, I cannot remember a time when Rich uttered a vindictive word about anyone or really misbehaved inappropriately, about anything, ever. Of course, Rich liked to have fun; but in the end, he was always kind and considerate to everyone. And what a great laugh he had. It was infectious and endearing. The feelings of generosity which he expressed toward others, made those of us around him, forget about our problems and feel better about ourselves and our lives.
Only if I, we, could be a little more like Rich. He was, and will always be, a true gentleman.
Rich grew up with a group of kids who Loved him. I am one of those kids, one of those friends. He will be sorely missed and the neighborhood where we all grew up, and indeed our very lives, will not be the same without him, ever.

Dear Bobbie, Buck, Amy, Rob and Budd,
I was stunned to receive the call about Rich's passing. As you know, Rich and I first met when he was about 11 and was our enthusiastic stablehand. I like to think he learned to love horses by hanging out with Red and Striker and Poco and the rest of the backyard horses. When Rich moved to Dallas, it was exciting to hear about his polo adventures.
Whether beaming at Amy at her wedding, walking arm and arm with Josephine, bending waaaay down to be on eye level with Katie, or running into a longtime family friend, Rich's amazing smile made that person, at that moment, feel like they were the most important person in his universe.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday and giving you each a big hug.
And Rich - one of these days I'll remind for the millionth time that I knew you when you were short!
Love,
Kevin La Rue

I had the pleasure of working for Rich when he was the GSM of O'Rielly Chevrolet. He was a strong closer, probably due to the fact of his great ability to talk to people. There were no strangers to Rich, as immediately, "strangers" warmed up to him and vice versa. This is truly a loss for the O'Rielly family and kin. My heart goes out to you all. Even though I am now in Wisconsin and have been gone from O'Rielly Chevrolet for almost 3 1/2 years, the time Rich was my boss is time I will always remember. He had so many talents, and was good at teaching and leading others. He will truly be missed. The Lord Jesus simply needed him up there more than He needed him on earth. It is not something that us mere mortals will ever understand. Thank you.
