To my dearest friend Rick, you were a great friend....it saddens me to this day that you are gone and no longer with us physically...you have made a tremendous impact in my life. There were times that you helped me when times were rough...you picked me up when I fell down....you guided me to the right path and made sure I stayed on that path. I am going to miss the times we aren't on the computer chatting and laughing about all the times when you couldn't pronounce something right. You are going to be missed. I'm going to miss you a lot my friend

The world will miss Richard's wonderful laugh. He was such a dear friend. We met years ago in Hohenfels. There were only four teachers and 80 kids, and he and I became close friends. Rexa and I have been sharing memories of the fun and carefree times we all had in Germany. We worked together, traveled together, partied together, and laughed together. I have a picture of 8 of us on the train going to Octoberfest. The train ride was as much fun as being there! Richard with his smile and funny little hat. And then, there was the time we all went to London for Thanksgiving and got caught in a subway bomb scare! I could go on and on. Great friends, great times. Richard was there for me when I was dating my husband. He was there for our wedding and even the birth of our first son. And he was there for both of us and remained a true friend to both of us even after we were no longer together. Heaven just may never be the same if Richard and Bob find each other! So Carol, you and Vi are in my thoughts. I do believe that part of heaven is how one is kept alive in the memories of those who are left behind. And, there are so many wonderful memories.Linda Valliant Kerin

Dear carol and family,
I am so shocked and saddened by the news of Rick's passing. We were friends since the 8th grade and through college at IUP and then back teaching at South Park, My husband taught with him at the middle school and always thought highly of him. We caught up again on facebook , but I had no idea that he was ill. Please accept our deepest sympathy. I know how difficult this must be for you. We will keep both you and Rick in our prayers.

Carol --
Thank you so much for calling me tonight. I am just devastated to hear about Richard ... as you know, he was one of my Best Friends when we were stationed at Hohenfels, Germany. Not only was he my son's teacher, but a friend as well ... when I think of Richard, I think of the happiest time of my life -- young, living overseas, wonderful friends.
We have "kept up" with Richard via letters, cards, phone, and e-mail since we left Hohenfels (late 70's).
My sincere condolences to you and Vi and all the family. All of you are in my prayers.

Dear Carole and Family,
There is not to much to say with the exception, that I send my sincere sympathy to you and your family.
One has to lose a brother or a sister to understand how empty you feel. It is not a easy time for anyone no matter how sick your loved one is...
Your brother will be in my prayers, but realizing how sick he was,he is now in a more beautiful place with your Mom,Dad and sister, and our prayers are already answered..
Please let me know if you need anything. I know you had great support from Linda,Flori, and Maryanne.
Love,
Bernie

I was one of Mr. Ocepek's students in the early 80's. Please accept my condolences.

My favorite photo I took of Rick during our class fieldtrip to a Japanese castle in early 1971. Rick's smile says it all:-)

Dear Rick...I am in shock and at such a loss for words!! It is hard for me at this moment, as I am so sad with tears. All I can say is, that I am so glad that I had a chance to reconnect with you after 40 years. You were one of my best teachers and such a kind, understanding and caring man...I was so blessed to have known you as a teacher and friend. You truly helped to make my schooling a positive experience and I am a better person, because of you. I'll remember you always. Thank you.
My deepest heartfelt prayers and condolences to all of Rick’s family and friends....with love and always in our hearts
