Rick and I flew out of my brothers field in MT Vernon Indiana. We joked and called our home base Davis International Airport! We planned a trip to Cross Wind fly in near Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We were assisting a pilot there who had trouble and time got away from us. Realizing this we quickly packed up and headed home. As we neared Owensboro the sun was setting. From there all we could see of each other was our blinking strobe lights. Rick had a phone patch in his headset and called a friend at the field and had him put headlights on the threshold of the runway. Rick was much faster than me so he would fly in a circle until I caught up with him. He landed first and opened his hangar doors and turned on some lights to help me align for landing. After that adventure we called each other by code names. Rick was Bug1 and I was Bug2 because we flew in the dark and beamed our flickering lights.

Rick was a real man! I met him at the RR in the late 70´s we just hit it off from the start. He was honest, trustworthy, faithful, a man of integrity and always had time to at least say hi, and a quick word of a joy that the you two had in common. When I read his obituary it felt like a ton of bricks fell on my heart. I know that the whole family is heartbroken. I am praying for you all that our precious savior the Lord Jesus will ease your pain and give you His strength in the coming days and weeks ahead. Steve Miller

There are a few people that I have met in the last 15 years that I wish I had met many, many years ago. Rick is one of those people. We talked about doing a motorcycle trip together, but time wasn´t in our favor. Heaven is a happy place, by now there should be motorcycles. Godspeed, my friend.
