Richard Pearson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 7 to Feb. 11, 2024.
Evansville - Richard "Rick" Pearson, 71, of Evansville, Indiana passed away February 3, 2024 at Heart to Heart Hospice facility. Rick was born August 9, 1952 to the late William and Margaret Pearson of Evansville.

He served in the National Guard and retired from the L&N and CSX railroad after 37 years of service as an Engineer.

Rick enjoyed scuba diving whenever he could on various Island excursions and off the coasts. He had a passion for the outdoors and loved riding his motorcycle anytime, regardless of the weather. Those trips included the Smokies, and challenging rides out west and into Canada with his friends. His main passion and lifelong dream since he was a child, was being a pilot. Rick loved flying and received numerous certifications and built two experimental aircraft planes of his own that he loved to fly. Rick could "fix" anything and enjoyed the challenge of researching his next project to completion.

Rick was a great friend and always offered a hand to help his many friends with anything they needed, and they will miss him dearly.

Rick is survived by his wife of 23 years, Holly (Holland), his step daughter Heather Ballinger (Cameron) and two grandchildren Arthur and June of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Bev Herron (Paul) of Newburgh, Indiana; sIster-in-law Jackie Simpson (Keith) of Florida; brother-in-law Todd Holland (Ellen who was so helpful to us at this time) Evansville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rick was also preceded in death by his two siblings Bill Pearson and Barbara Ann Hertzberger.

The family will have a "celebration of life" at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Rick loved dogs, and we would ask that you make a donation in his honor to It Takes a Village Animal Shelter, Evansville, Indiana or an animal shelter in your area.

Rick and I flew out of my brothers field in MT Vernon Indiana. We joked and called our home base Davis International Airport! We planned a trip to Cross Wind fly in near Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We were assisting a pilot there who had trouble and time got away from us. Realizing this we quickly packed up and headed home. As we neared Owensboro the sun was setting. From there all we could see of each other was our blinking strobe lights. Rick had a phone patch in his headset and called a friend at the field and had him put headlights on the threshold of the runway. Rick was much faster than me so he would fly in a circle until I caught up with him. He landed first and opened his hangar doors and turned on some lights to help me align for landing. After that adventure we called each other by code names. Rick was Bug1 and I was Bug2 because we flew in the dark and beamed our flickering lights.

Rick was a real man! I met him at the RR in the late 70´s we just hit it off from the start. He was honest, trustworthy, faithful, a man of integrity and always had time to at least say hi, and a quick word of a joy that the you two had in common. When I read his obituary it felt like a ton of bricks fell on my heart. I know that the whole family is heartbroken. I am praying for you all that our precious savior the Lord Jesus will ease your pain and give you His strength in the coming days and weeks ahead. Steve Miller

There are a few people that I have met in the last 15 years that I wish I had met many, many years ago. Rick is one of those people. We talked about doing a motorcycle trip together, but time wasn´t in our favor. Heaven is a happy place, by now there should be motorcycles. Godspeed, my friend.
