FALMOUTH - Richard S.
Porensky, MD, 73, of Falmouth, passed from this life due to non-smoking related lung cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Anna and Stephen Porensky.
Richard graduated from Valley Stream Central High School on Long Island, N.Y., where he met his wife to be, Kathie. After his graduation from Cornell University, Richard and Kathie married in Geneva, N.Y.
He graduated from New York University Medical School, where he stayed to complete his training as a pathologist. For two years he served as a physician in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Ky. Reading Hospital in Reading, Pa., provided his first private position as a pathologist. He had a distinguished career as a Pathologist at Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Portland.
He was a devoted husband and father. Richard had a wonderful and wry sense of humor, and cared deeply for the well-being of his family. He prided himself on his strong work ethic and sense of integrity. He loved the Maine coast and being out on the ocean sailing.
He leaves his wife of 51 years, Kathie, and their four sons, Richard Jr., William, John and Paul, and their families.
