Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 15 to Mar. 16, 2013.
Richard Johnston Porter II, known to those who loved him simply as "Rick," passed away at age 58. He was reminiscing at his homestead in Cypress, Texas when he was rushed to Saint Luke's hospital at Vintage Park in Houston. He died at 7:15 pm on February 25th, 2013 from congestive heart failure. Richard was born in Houston on August 31st, 1954 to Evelyn Fay Porter and Richard Johnston Porter. He had an older sister, Rosalind Marie Porter, and he had two wives during his life, Deborah and Felicia. He graduated with a BA in Drama and Acting from UT Austin and an MA in Screenwriting and Directing from Columbia. Rick played "Larry Ewing" on Another World soap opera for 10 years in New York City. Near the end of his life he acted as a consultant in senior care and alternative energy industries. Rick resided in Houston, Austin, New York, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale. He was a very friendly and outgoing man who had a lot of friends and built communities everywhere he went. Rick had an amazing sense of humor and boundless energy. Despite his many hardships, Rick was a man who thoroughly enjoyed living life to the fullest. Rick is survived by his only daughter, Allison Linsey Porter, and his older sister, Rosalind Marie Porter. He is predeceased by both his parents, Richard Johnston Porter and Evelyn Fay Porter. His memorial service was held on Sunday March 3rd, 2013 at his home in Cypress. It was attended by many close friends and family who loved Rick and wished to celebrate his life.

I think I still have super 8 videos of Ricky I took in Windwood when he was about 15. I wanted to be a movie producer and he was the only one willing to star in my production.

In 1971 at Cy-Fair HS, Ricky Porter wowed the crowd in a drama department production of “Androcles and the Lion.” His leonine voice, facial expressions, timing, and agility astonished the audience. I recall laughing so hard that I cried. As his Government-Economics teacher, I regarded Ricky as a careful listener, quick thinker, and eager participant in class discussions. He was President of the Student Council, and I was the Student Council sponsor, so I had the privilege of collaborating with him on council business last period every day. High-spirited and restless, he nevertheless followed through and proved himself a solid student body leader. I was sorry to come across his obituary today while visiting the CFISD website. From my vantage point now as a teacher of gifted students, I see Ricky as having been not just a smart guy, but a “gifted” one. If so, that means that his life was a good bit more complicated than I realized back then. My sympathies go to his family and friends. Chris Montgomery Lay, ACE Academy, Austin, TX.

I knew Rick from his time on Long Island at his summer home. He was married to Debbie at the time and I saw Lindsey three days after her birth. He was a great friend.

I am shocked to read this. Though it's been many years ago, my very first real boyfriend will be missed, and never forgotten. Until we meet again Rick. Anne

So sorry for your family Rick because they are going to miss you so much. You were very sweet in high school and loved talking to you at 1972 reunions. God bless and you and Pat can reminisce about the old days in Winwood!

I was sad to hear about Ricky passing. It's still hard to believe as he was always bigger than life. We had a lot of fun together when we were all young out in Windwood Subdivision. We'll miss you Ricky.

Was truly saddened to hear about Rick's untimely death, as he left us too soon. I, too, am reminiscing about the many fun times all the old neighborhood gang had in our younger days hanging out in Windwood Park, and at our occasional get-togethers through the years. Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end. RIP Rick. You will be missed. With sincere sympathy to Allison and Rosalind.
