In memory of
Renee Burgess
January 15, 2006
Dear Kathleen and family,
We certainly enjoyed the friendship your family showed to our family as we visited Grandma Peterson, as your family and ours would visit in Pleasant View, Idaho. Everyone loved and respected Richard. He was a good man. I send my sympathy and condolence at this time. Your cousin, Renee

I enjoyed the priviledge and pleasure of working with Rich and his brother Gerry on a variety of interpretive projects over quite a number of years. He was a valued associate, mentor and friend. We've worked for one another, teamed together and even competed for contracts--always with respect to one another. Our finest collaborative work, in my view, was developing a master plan for visitor use of Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on Great Salt Lake, a place we both love. It's ironic that Terry Tempest Williams fine book "Refuge" chronicals the biological death and rebirth of the refuge in parallel with Terry's mother's own fight with cancer. The attached photo will forever remind me of Rich and that wonderful place many of us know simply as "the refuge." May the dynamics of the refuge and people's enjoyment and enrichment from their visits there always be Rich's legacy.

Rich is one man I could say had a heart of gold. I've only known Rich for about 7 years from playing early morning basketball and I must say had an incredible jump-shot(although he humbly denied it) . He gained instant respect and trust from those he was around and his upbeat attitude has made a great impact in my life.

Kathleen, I learned about Rich this morning from Bill Bouck through Bob Bills. I want to express my love to you in your trial. We all had a wonderful time in the early years. Rich was very special and I know your love was eternal.

Dearest Kathleen and kids,
I feel so fortunate that I was able to see you, albeit briefly, this last July. I can't tell you how much the visit meant to me. Having moved around so much, seeing you and Rich reminded me of those important years in my life when you were so integral to my definition of "home". And now Rich is finally Home and smiling down upon us all. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
with love, Michelle Florin Monroe and family

Kathleen, Marian and I want to express our love and sympathy to you and your family. At basketball we called him Rooster and he called me Man Mountain. Really it is he that should have been Man Mountain. His wonderful shadow will forever protect you and your children as the shadow of the mountains that we raised our families under. He will be remembered as stalwart, good and of great cheer! The Lord bless and keep you!

Mary Lou and I were saddened to hear of Rich's passing. We are presently serving again in Switzerland on a mission where Rich and I served 42 years ago. I have many fond memories of our times here in Switzerland as well as in high school. May the Lord bless you at this difficult time.

I had the wonderful opportunity to be in Bro. Pulsiphers singles ward when he was the counselor in the bishopric. He kindness and warmth was always something that has stayed with me all these years later. I will miss him greatly. He was a wonderful influence in my life during those years of change and some heartache. Thank-you Bro. Pulsipher for everything!! I love you always!!!

Shopping at Smith's will never be the same. I'll miss your smile, your sense of humor and the occasional elbow when we were playing basketball. In the dictionary the word "friend" should have your picture as the perfect example. I know who is in charge when we come into this world and when we leave it, and, with Him in charge I won't worry. But, I will miss my friend Richie!

My deepest sympathy to the family. I had the privilege of playing B Ball with Rich for the past twenty years or so and have always admired and respected him. He was a gifted person as an athlete and an ambassador of good will to anyone who he came in contact with. I have always looked up to Rich and will always have fond memories of his sense of humor and his automatic jump shot.
