Richard (Rick) Ryerson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2024.
Rick passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 1, 2024.

Preceded in death by his parents John and Jeannette Ryerson, sister Kathy Ryerson and partner Dawn Johnston.

Survived by his partner in life Judy Beaumier, sisters Judy Ryerson, Pat Sutherland and husband Joe, nephew Simon Sutherland, dear friend Dick Rubenstein and many other life-long friends and family who will miss him so much.

Rick was the dearest of people, the kindest of souls, the absolute best of humanity. He was an unwavering friend to those he cared about and endlessly curious about the world and others. The longevity of his relationships speak to this. Always informed and pragmatic, his unique intellect and sense of humor made every conversation a delight. His humble and kind nature and his desire to always be helpful, especially to the children in his life, made him a role model to many of them. He was a brilliant light in this world and all who were lucky enough to know him would agree that he made their lives better.

Rick grew up in Whitefish Bay, WI and spent his career as a pilot. He started Ryerson Aircraft in the early 1980's which he operated as an air freight company and later as an aerial photography business until he retired from flying in 2021.

Rick wasn't big on fanfare so there will be no services or memorial at this time. A celebration of Rick's life may be planned in the future.

Rick was always a lot of fun to be around. He was highly intelligent, with a great sense of humor, and a big laugh. I will miss him. Pete (Greeley)

We drove over the Hone Bridge when all the sudden, the Alfa Romeo started pouring smoke out of the AC! It nearly suffocated us out while we tried to get the windows down! We jumped out the car assuming it was going to start on fire. After a few minutes of letting the engine cool, we decided to brave the car again and drive back. Every time I go over that bridge, I think of that memory of him. He always made scary situations into a joke that could make anyone laugh. He was a great friend! I will truly miss him <3

I'll never forget when I was living in Milwaukee going to college and Rick would drop everything to come help me every time I gave him a call! If I needed a ride, he would pick me up in moments. If I needed a jump on my car, he would be there with cables and a coffee! He even let me borrow his tools when I needed to make some impromptu repairs in my apartment to make sure I got the security deposit back. He was a great guy! I feel eternally lucky to have had him in my life since childhood. He was a friend, a confidant, and someone I always enjoyed sharing time with.

Rick and I never met in person, but on my last visit to Milwaukee we talked for a few hours. I let him know who I was and how I came to know him. Long time friends of his Sisters Pat and Judy. We shared stories and jokes. I will miss him for that. Rest In Peace Rick!
