In memory of

I have just learned about Richard´s death and am so very sad to know of it. My heart breaks for his wife and family. R and I worked together in Kansas City more than two decades ago and I remember him for the way his seriousness and his playfulness intertwined in his approach to work and in knowing what to take seriously, for his empathy and joy, his warmth, and delightful mischief. I wish I had had the chance to know him through his music. I know he was a complicated human, and I value him for his willingness to face complication and for his generosity in so many times being a comfort during a tough day. I wish he were still here.

I knew Richard in Quincy, IL - throughout high school. We were in the musicals and music department together. I will always remember his kind words and character. He was So nice to everyone he met! My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.

Richard was my house mate in Dearborn, MI. One morning, he was just in our basement, asleep on an air mattress. Our landlord forgot to tell us our new house mate was coming early. He was such a loving, fun, charismatic friend. He had the right words at the right times. He was always encouraging and uplifting throughout the years. He taught me to believe in myself and efforts, not just the results. I will miss my friend dearly and thankful to have had his light shine bright in my life. My deepest condolences to his friends and family.

Richard and I met at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He was always warm, cordial, and pleasant to be around. Our friendship grew over the years and I would often enjoy receiving his messages while he was on his travels or him connecting with me to wish me a happy Ramadan or Eid. I fondly remember having accidentally eaten pork at a bbq at his house once, it was delicious :-D. You will be missed.

I just learned of Richard's passing. He was such a great colleague to me in grad school at UNC. Many treasured memories of conversations, singing together, hanging out. I'll remember him as one who searched for truth and justice, and one who always looked for his own path.

Richard was my friend from his freshman semester at Southern Illinois University through his recent visit to my home this past January. I'm saddened by this loss, and extend my sympathy to all his loved ones.
