My daughter and her family now live in Ann Arbor where Richard served as Executive Director of ICPSR for a time. The building is located along the route to drop my grandkids off at daycare when my wife and I visit. Whenever I go by, it's a reminder of his dedication to research on societal challenges and his friendship!

I think of Richard often -- his humor, enjoyment of the good things in life like music, food, and wine, his amazing work ethic, and his generosity of spirit, especially to younger colleagues. I'd enjoy being in contact with any of his family or other colleagues who could say more about the latter years of his life.

I was trying to get back in contact with Richard after losing touch with him and was sorry to learn he had passed away. He was a great colleague and friend to me. I send my condolences to his sons, grandchildren, and brother.

Prof. Rockwell's unique vision and a wealth of knowledge inspired numerous students to pursue advanced studies in sociology and careers in international development. You will be truly missed, dear Professor.
