As a child going to the movies with my parents to see the first Shaft movie

I wanted to share my condolences late to Mr Richard Roundtree. I was an 11 year old boy when Shaft came out. My father was stationed in Spain for the Air Force. The preview of Shaft said " if you want to see it, you better ask yo momma". I did get to see it, and was influenced seeing a super hero of a black man, doing the right thing against evil. Thank you for being a mentor with that role and otherS. RIP

Often overlooked, one of the greatest things Mr. Roundtree did was to be public about his breast cancer diagnosis in 1993. He helped many people realize that men, too, can have breast cancer. By being public about this and having a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, he helped educate us. He also worked with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to raise men's awareness about the disease and became an advocate for greater breast cancer awareness among men. Mr. Roundtree encouraged all men, especially African American men, to see their doctors regularly. This, too, is one of his many noteworthy accomplishments. Although we don´t know how many lives he helped save because of his advocacy, God does, and He will not forget all the good Mr. Roundtree has done. Thank you Mr. Richard Rountree. Your legacy continues, sir.

Mr. Roundtree was a actor who our dad would allow us to go see as children. Shaft was a picture where his class and ability to take care of business has stuck with us during the years and other roles. Exceptional gentleman and role model. Rest In Paradise King.

I am so sad to know of Richard´s passing. He was my first True Love. I remember when I first saw Richard Roundtree on the big screen. I was 12 years old when I went to see the movie SHAFT. I was so smitten by his grand style. I think at that first sighting, I developed the biggest crush on him. He was so incredibly good-looking to me. I knew that even at such a youthful age. And I went back to see the movie six times. That movie was amazing. And life changing for so many people. He became our first Black Hero. And the entire soundtrack album to this movie is truly a Masterpiece. Credits to the late Isaac Hayes and Gordon Parks. All throughout the years I have been a big Fan. And have followed his career for many years. I have always enjoyed his acting. And even to this day. I do not think I have ever seen such a Fine-Looking Black Man. I must say. I am forever heart-broken of his passing. We would have loved him to be around for many more years. But we have lost a "True Icon." I so sadly send my deepest condolences to Richard´s family. We will miss his presence. May he forever rest in his Power.

Richard Roundtree was my father cousin. From white plains NY. I´m on the Payne family side. James Payne was my father l heard a lot about Richard l never met him, but l have always enjoyed the music and movies matter of fact Richard and my brother David Payne look so much alike my cousin Doug Payne a few weeks ago was looking back at some family reunion invite and John Roundtree name was one that my grand uncle was trying to contact know we know that Richard is no longer suffering and he is in Jehovah God memory. I remember Richard Roundtree as an Ebony Fashion Fair male model. He made quite an impression on the ladies in the audience. I also remember seeing the movie SHAFT in Chicago, IL(I´m from Phoenix, AZ). It was the first time I had ever heard the audience talk back to the movie. There was great running commentary which provided a wonderful movie going experience for me.

An acting legend that so many enjoyed for so many years, he must definitely left his mark in the acting world.

An incredible actor that started the black action movie experience and opened doors for so many after him. He never disappointed. Throughout his long and interesting career he made movies and acted in roles that many were able to enjoy. He will be missed. My first memory of Richard ROUNDTREE, was 9f course in Shaft. It was 1971, I believe, so I was abt 11, maybeb12. It was rated R, so we had no business in the theatre. But no one carded u, in those days. Mr. Roundtree, was a well rounded, talented actor. I still listen to some of the music from Isaac Hayes' sound track, to this day. Especially, Cafe Reggio.
Shaft, was gritty & well made. It was what the NYC of my youth was in the 70s.
RIP Mr. Roundtree.
