Hi Barbara,
We first met Richard at Greg & Sheila's wedding. Sharing similar viewpoints on various subjects, he and I liked each other right away, although he was *just a bit* more conservative that I.

We will miss seeing him at those family events he (and you) could attend, especially Christmas.

Sgt. Ryan was my shift supervisor when I was the midnight records clerk in 1975. He was such a gentleman and always had a smile, good word and/or humorous quip. He will be missed.

Sgt Ryan was my Sergeant on a few shifts during my career. He always had our backs and he was a pleasure to work with. Prayers to Sgt Ryan's family. I will miss talking to him at the December luncheon. God bless.

Dick was my graveyard Sergeant when I joined SMPD in 1976. Being the first Lateral Officer, there were some bumps in the road which Dick helped me navigate. Dick was a true gentleman, always on a even keel at work and a pleasure to work for.
I looked forward to catching up with him at the annual lunch and will miss him this December. He was good man, a man of honor and a true friend. Of course it helped that he had Irish sense of humor during some difficult times.
I know he will be missed by many people, and by sharing his loss with them , I hope it eases the families sense of loss.
Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Dick, you were my hero and good friend. You were always there to help others when needed. It was great to see you every year at our retirees Christmas get together. I'm sadden with the news and pray for you and your family. God's speed! God bless you and your family. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed but not forgotten.

It was just last December, at the retirement luncheon that Dick and I talked and laughed about the years we worked together, mostly on the midnight shift. We had been promoted on the same day which now seems so long ago. I will always keep his memory alive as we truly enjoyed one an-others company. All those hours at work and of course at Bay Meadows solving all the problems of the world. To his family I can say that Dick was what they already know very well. A great guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am proud to say that I knew him as one of San Mateo's finest and as a friend. May you rest in peace my brother.

To the entire Ryan family. I've been working at San Mateo Police Department since 1986, where I started as a Police Cadet (now in Records). I did know your loved one and he was a very nice man. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

i Loved Sgt. Ryan. He was always kind, and made be feel like I was part of the department. I thought of him every time I thought of the department. He told me of his cat Maggie when I saw the picture of her in the Times. I always looked for him at the reunions, and there he was still joking with me al he always did. I am sadden at his passing...I will miss him.

Dick was my sergeant at San Mateo Police Department, where I was a dispatcher. He was the patrol sergeant on graveyard when we worked together. What a great guy to have as my supervisor. He was not only a very good sergeant, he was fun, personable, and nonjudgmental. I have nothing but fond memories of him. God bless him and the Ryan family. With much love, Mary Kay Sholaas

He was such a nice man! A great supervisor of mine...I remember a bunch of us trying to quit smoking at the PD. He volunteered to hypnotize me to stop. It didn't work, but he was great about it! So sad...you are in our prayers..
