Richard Sand Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2025.
Richard Willis Sand Born on December 28, 1929, in Kosciusko County, Indiana Passed away in Green Valley, Arizona, at the age of 95

Richard is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 62 years, Carol A. Sand, as well as their four children: Kathy, Lissa, Michael, and Scott. His legacy lives on through six grandchildren, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis R. Sand and Lois C. Sand, his sister Marlene, and his brother Donald.

Richard's early years were shaped by his father's military service, which led him to attend 17 different schools while growing up as an officer's child during World War II. After graduating high school in 1948, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably for four years during the Korean War. His bravery earned him two Purple Hearts, having been wounded in the battle for Seoul and again during the retreat from Chosin Reservoir.

Following his military service, Richard spent over three years as a deputy sheriff, later attending Indiana University, where he earned his law degree. His dedication to justice led him to practice law for twenty years before serving as Judge of the Kosciusko Circuit Court for thirteen years. He concluded his distinguished career as a senior judge, taking assignments across the state of Indiana.

Richard lived a life of service, resilience, and integrity. His contributions-both in his military and legal career-will be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a profound legacy of courage, dedication, and love for his family
