Mrs. Schonher and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Dicks passing and of your loss. My earliest memories of him were of his strength and how much I looked up to him. I've been involved in sports and coaching for a good part of my life, and I'm well aware of how Dick's encouragement commitment, and sense of fairness influenced me. I've tried to instill these same qualities in all of my student/athletes. I'm lucky for having known him, and for that I'm greatful. Please know that you, your family and Dick are in my heart and thoughts.

Memories of Dick will be with us for a long time. He has been a great inspiration to me. Am thinking he will be a great mentor to all the angels in Heaven.

Our hearts ache for you but we are also relieved to know you have such a wonderful family to support each other and give each other strength to endure this sad time. May your family find peace in the great life that Dick lived. Your family has much to be proud of with Dick at the forefront. May you have peace in his lifelong efforts to do good.

I grew up with Dick when he lived on Oak St. and I on Clinton St. in Elmira. I had a crush on Dick's sister Barbara when we were in the 8th grade. And...

I was also a boxer and on bad advice from Coach Bosley, at the Neighborhood House I agreed to be Dick's sparring partner before he became a golden gloves champ. Sparring with Dick didn't last long because he beat me to a pulp every time we sparred. I gave up boxing because of Dick.

On the other hand, us kids from the East Side would tag along with Dick every morning for protection on our way to EFA. He was our protector for years.

Now that we're grown, we East Side kids have a saying that only East Side kids, as survivors, can appriciate... "If you're not dead or in jail, you're a sucess" Dick made us proud. He was much more than a sucess. He was our hero. God Bless.
