Richard Malcolm Sharp, affectionately known as "Dick," passed away in his sleep on October 1, 2025, under unusual circumstances. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Dick lived a life devoted to education, equality, and the betterment of others.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Sharp; his sister, Esther; and his two nephews, Benji and Jeffrey Robbins.

A man of both intellect and conscience, Dick made his mark early in life as the author of the mathematics component for the Head Start program, helping generations of children build strong educational foundations. While pursuing his doctorate at Boston University in the 1950s, Dick worked in Harlem and formed a remarkable friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was also completing his Doctoral studies at the time. The two shared weekly lunches and participated together in civil rights meetings that would help shape a movement. Dick later joined Dr. King in the historic March on Washington in 1963-a moment that reflected his lifelong commitment to justice and equality.

Throughout his career, Dick turned down prestigious opportunities, including a position at Harvard, to pursue his own independent path of writing and research. He authored numerous math game books, medical texts, and educational websites, and contributed articles to a range of medical and math education publications. His intellect and compassion also led him to the White House, where he met with President Lyndon B. Johnson on five occasions. He also taught for over thirty-five years at California State University, Northridge.

Dick will be cremated under the care of Conejo Mountain Funeral Home. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal service. His ashes will be placed in a beautiful resting spot where friends and loved ones may visit
