Words could never express the loss of this Wonderful man. He was a joy to know. He had his own special way of doing things. Very intellegent. I will always remember him with his eyebrows raised above his glasses, grinning, like noone else can. I always looked forward to seeing him. What an awesome man. He is greatly missed.

While we rejoice that Uncle Richard is living freely - no longer bound by his body - we are also sad to not have another day to create a memory. I have so many memories of your Dad. I first met Richard and Eddie Smelley through little league baseball in 1955. These guys were such great atheletes even at a very young age. Richard's passing is very sad. He was a great personality and uplifted everyone at Lufkin High School. Our thoughts and prayers surround this family and we pray the peace of God for you during these most difficult times.

Richard was a college buddy and a fraternity brother. He was a heck of a nice guy that always had a smile and a positive outlook on life. Some forty years later, I can still picture him with that smile.

I was very saddened to learn of Richard's passing - and my heartfelt sympathies to the entire Smelley familes. I have fond memories from Arlie being a childhood friend and classmate to reuniting with Richard, Arlie and their family when they moved to the San Francisco area for awhile.
