Richard Smith

Richard Smith, 57, passed away peacefully at his residence in Delmar, New York, on December 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). Born on July 10, 1967, to Linda and Richard Smith Sr. of Selkirk, Richard lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and devotion to his family.

Richard was a valued member of the Voorheesville Elementary School community, where he worked as a bus mechanic and driver. His dedication and work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and the families he served. Outside of his professional life, Richard found joy in nature and hands-on pursuits. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family. A man of many talents, he pursued diverse hobbies including beekeeping, building his own sailboat, go-kart racing, and motorcycle riding. During his illness, Richard's determination shone through as he embraced new hobbies such as cross-stitching and assembling jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Haidee; their children: Elizabeth Smith, Samantha (Derek) Brower, Ashley (Tom) Morrissey, Megan (Andrew) Fuller, and Brad (Mindy) Moore; two cherished granddaughters, Theadora and Athena Moore; his sister Stephanie (Richard) Kaser; and his mother Linda Smith. He was predeceased by his father Richard Smith Sr. and his sister Rachel Coonrad.

Richard's life was defined by love for his family and an adventurous spirit. His steadfast resolve in the face of challenges serves as an inspiration to all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those who mourn his loss.
