Richard Verne Stemmons

Richard Verne Stemmons, age 80, died July 19, 2014. He was born in Jasper County, Missouri, to Omer James Stemmons and Pearl Busby Stemmons.

He attended school in Golden City, MO and graduated from Central High School in Springfield, MO. In 1955 Verne married Florence Suttle, shortly after spending two years active duty in the US Army, Military Police Corps. Following were four years in the Active Reserves. Verne became a Christian in 1958, and was ordained as a Deacon at Pleasant Home Baptist. Later he attended Hamlin Memorial Church for longer than 30 years. He retired from Kraft foods in 1993, continuing on working for F & H foods in Springfield.

He was preceded in death by both parents as well as a sister Alice Fraser and brother Kenneth Stemmons. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Florence Stemmons, as well as a brother Wayne and wife Mary and a sister Marilyn and husband Bill Stark, two daughters; Vicky Stever and husband David and Teresa Ramsey and companion Guy Arras, two grandchildren; Tori and Bryce Ramsey and several nieces, nephews which he treasured, along with his many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
