Stockell, Richard Brian Jr.,
Born February 28,1980. Passed away, Friday, April 28, 2023.
Adoring father of Madelynn Stockell; loving son of Evie & Rick Stockell Sr.; Dearest brother of Ellie (John) Short and Lauren (Robert) Huckstep. Uncle of Jack Short, Lucy Short, Chip Huckstep and Redmond Huckstep. Nephew of Frank & Balenda Stockell, Chip & Patty Stockell, Don & Kristy Stockell, Greg & Linda Stockell, Sean & Dana Stockell, Leila Miller Dower, and Bruce Miller. Dedicated parent with Jeannine Beck.
Brian graduated Eureka High School in 1998, & Drury University in 2002. His professional career began at Stockell Healthcare Systems immediately after graduation. His career in IT continued with Medsphere Systems Corporation in 2017 as a Senior Azure Cloud Architect. He took pride in his work.
Brian liked to spend time “tinkering.” He deconstructed, & he rebuilt: he created. He came to love fishing. He found escape and enjoyment on his best friend Andy’s farm. It was a happy place for him. He cherished spending time with "his people." Whether it was a bonfire in the backyard, cooking out, watching a game, or exploring new ideas and places- he was a committed friend. He relished any experience, adventure, debate, or challenge. A natural athlete & competitor, Brian was also a brilliant mind.
Above all, Brian was a devoted Dad to his daughter Madelynn Stockell. She was his light; he glowed with fatherly pride. They shared the best moments of his life. He was completely committed to her. Brian loved watching Maddy play sports; helping her with school, and always had tips & lessons to give. He believed in her every step of the way. Maddy recently posted that she will miss their late night gas station runs, ordering food and playing xbox until the wee hours, and listening to all his life lessons. Maddy says her Dad was her best friend.

As I sit in my religion class, bored out of my mind, I came to my dad's obituary page and I'm in such awe of how many people were touched and affected by my dad. Every message and tribute I read, it only makes me happier to see how my dad was such an impact in some peoples lives. Even if it was just a silly school memory, or going to the Battlehawks game and sharing a drink, my dad's legacy and memory will forever live on for the rest of my life. Seeing all of this truly brings me such joy and relief :)

Brian, You were a bright light in our lives, always full of energy, laughter, and an undeniable zest for life. The memories we shared together are forever in my heart, and I will always cherish our moments together. I mourn not only the loss of your presence but also the dreams and possibilities that will never come to fruition. You touched the lives of so many people with your kindness, compassion, and beautiful spirit. I feel I still can see you every time I look at dear sweet Maddy. Rest peacefully dear Brian, knowing that you will never be forgotten and that your spirit will continue to guide and inspire me. Until we meet again...

There’s no words that can express my sorrow for you guys. I grew up with Brian and he was like a little brother to me. I will always remember the times we played soccer in the basement at Cindy and Chips house with Moose. I will always remember those times, and I will be thinking about you guys for a long time.

For all the Stockell Family, I am so sorry for the unexpected loss of Brian. I worked with Brian for many years, in many different capacities, and always enjoyed how Brian thought “big”. Everything he touched, he wanted to level-up and once he latched onto something, he poured an enormous amount of time and energy into it, doing whatever it took to achieve his goals. He will be missed.
Praying the God of all comfort is holding you all up during this time.

Brian became an immediate friend when I first moved to St. Louis in 2011 and went out of his way to make sure I experienced everything the city had to offer. It was important to him that I retained a sense of family when I had none of my own nearby. We spent many nights together decompressing after work and talking about anything, everything, but often about his little Madelynn. He was an uplifting force that believed in the merit of ideas and built the confidence needed to carry them forward. He was the big brother that would beat you in the driveway basketball game and somehow you came away feeling good about it anyway. Most importantly, his motivations were pure. If he showed up, you knew he was there for you. If he asked you a question, you knew it was because he was honestly interested in the answer. The memories of the time we spent together will be with me always. I miss him and I am so sorry for your loss.

Brian was like a second son to Craig and myself. We had so much fun watching him play wiffleball, basketball, swimming and playing poker with his buddies. First time he came to spend the night he got scared and I had to call Evie. After that no problem he was part of our family. He was always there for us. Helped when Craig’s Mom passed and helped us move. He also took out Craig’s Porsche one night when we were out of town. He had to drive as Craig Jr. didn’t know how to drive a stick shift. We didn’t find out until many years later! Seems like God took you too soon but he must have a wonderful purpose for you in heaven. Until we meet again you will always have a special place in our hearts. Love You, Betty & Craig

I’m Jeff, Brian’s next-door neighbor, ‘81-86, Eureka, Hilltop, Dartingbird Ln. My son, Josh, was about the same age and looks as Brian (twins!) and thus, BFF. For that, I am forever grateful. I guess it was pre-K time for the boys and a time for boyhood blossoming. It was a world with dew still on it— more touched by wonder and possibility than any since known. Their life, especially Brian’s, was completely centered around his first love, hot/big wheels racing and spin outs in the cul-de-sac and beyond. Brian was a pro and a daredevil, barrel chest and all. Brian was the “Steve McQueen of Kid Cool”. They’d do their own maintenance, bikes upside down, Brian getting some Crisco for lube. It worked! Once Brian tried to strap bottle rockets to the rear for thrust! God love him! I helped (hey, it sounded cool!). I figured Brian and Josh put in over 7,000 miles on the famous wheels with streamers on the handlebars. Every day was Le Mans day for Brian. I never saw him eat. He just raced! Brian enjoyed a good smoke (candy cig, relax!) and Hawaiian Punch, in the fort, after a grueling day of Le Mans racing, with Evie chasing after him for some trumped up kid crime! Even my own parents thought the world of Brian and the girls. You see, unknowingly, at the time, this period I am describing was to become the pinnacle of my life and Brian was there! Brian and these happy memories are constantly with me and always will, especially my tomorrows. I am eternally grateful to Brian for making me a better man and having the best life ever. God, I love all you Stockells! Godspeed.

Rick, Maddie and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
This is so sad but keep all the good things in your mind as you reflect on
Brian’s life and all that he accomplished.
I have known Brian for 18 years and to see how much he has grown as a
person, friend, father and co-worker is so Amazing.
He was always “The life of the party” at the annual user group conference
and so competitive in our trivia games but kept it all exciting.
Remember that it is all of the things that took place between 1980 and 2023
that made him who he is, it’s what the – represents and I believe that he lived
life to the fullest. He is watching over all of you now and will be for eternity.

My deepest condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of playground sports games that we shared throughout elementary school. We found ourselves in different groups in high school, but I can’t think of anything but nice things to say of him. Again very sorry to hear of his passing.

I went to middle and high school with Brian. I don’t think I have one memory of him where he wasn’t smiling, laughing, or joking around. He was always trying to cheer others up and bring fun to what we did. I am so sorry for your loss.

Brian was not only a great asset to his company, but he brought on great relationships in the journey. I met Brian by attending a Stockell Healthcare Conference and we hit it off as friends immediately. Such a great guy. I will cherish the Cardinals jersey he gifted me. Truly will be missed. Sending prayers to his daughter and parents.

I worked with "Brian". I only knew him as such. Maddie is the same age as my daughter and we bonded over talking about our daughters. Brian also talked about his entire family and how close they were. At work, Brian was always giving us his new ideas and was a big thinker. We will all miss him.
