Richard Strobeck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2025.
Richard Pruett Strobeck, 88, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Eugene, Oregon-the city where he was born on February 2, 1937.

Richard grew up in Eugene and graduated from Eugene High School. As a young man, he worked as a paper carrier for the Register Guard and spent weekends in the pressroom of the Oregonian. These early experiences sparked a lifelong career in printing and publishing.

In September 1955, Richard joined the United States Army. He served on active duty in Hanford, Washington, until September 1957 and continued his service in the Army Reserves until receiving an honorable discharge in September 1961. After completing his military service, he returned to Eugene and resumed work with the Register Guard as a pressman. He also worked at Roy's 76 Station before relocating with his family to the Los Angeles area in 1967.

In Los Angeles, Richard joined the Herald Examiner newspaper and later worked at Thomas & Betz. His career progressed when he became part owner of Data Label Products in Covina, California-a role he held for two decades until retirement. Following this chapter of his life, he moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, where he continued working as a shuttle and bus operator for various transport companies until health concerns led him to retire fully.

Richard was a man of deep faith. Raised in the Church of Christ, he remained a devoted Christian throughout his life. He attended churches in both the Los Angeles and Portland areas and continued studying the Bible even when health challenges prevented him from attending services.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Strobeck; children Sheryl Strobeck, Craig Strobeck (Kathy), and Rene Wheeler (Doug); stepchildren Cindy Quillen, Tracy Kelly, and Mark Mehta; brothers Don (Debbie), John (Tamara), and Ken Strobeck (Kay); 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held on April 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Westside Baptist Church, 1375 Irving Rd., Eugene, Oregon 97404. A lunch will follow the service.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
