Rich was born in Omaha, Neb., to Richard P. Sullivan, Sr., and Rita (Tessin) Sullivan. He married Denise (Darnell) Sullivan; and was blessed with three wonderful boys, Matthew, Ronald and Cody. Rich graduated from Burke High School in 1970 and moved to Council Bluffs in 1987. For 27 years he worked for Omaha Steel Castings before retiring in 2005. During his time there, he was with Iron Workers Local #553. Rich was also a member of Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandkids. Rich also liked to fish with his family and friends. He enjoyed all his children's sporting activities as they were growing up. Rich loved soccer and coached it for 6 years.
He is survived by his wife, Denise, of Council Bluffs; sons, Matthew Sullivan and wife, Trisha, Ronald Sullivan and Rachel Tuff, all of Omaha, Neb., Cody Sullivan, of Council Bluffs; two grandchildren, Landon and Emerson Sullivan; father and mother, Richard, Sr. and Rita Sullivan, of Omaha; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Margaret Darnell, of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Linda Dyson and husband, Jim, of Waverly; brothers-in-law, Michael Darnell and wife, Patty, Patrick Darnell and wife, Penny, all of Council Bluffs; aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends including Bob and Jacque Turk, Guy Walker and Danny Montez.
Rosary recitation, Thursday, 6 p.m., followed by family receiving friends until 8 p.m., at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church, 33rd and 3rd Ave. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, 11 a.m., at the church with Rev. Dan Kirby, pastor as the celebrant. Lunch will immediately follow in the parish hall. The family will direct memorials. Private burial at a later date.
